What albums did you listen to today?...continued

   Anyway, from the past couple of days:
T2 - It'll All Work Out In Boomland - A quintessential slab of everything that was going on in the early 70's in British rock music. No More White Horses is a track that I haven't paid much attention to in the past that really stuck out this time. Not only is that concluding guitar solo the most intense moment on the record, the softer, more melancholic sections have a certain power to them as well. Great as always.

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow - The best thing Jeff Beck ever worked on. I really love this album for so many reasons. It's certainly one of the more original fusion albums of the 70's and the more composed nature with the occasional synth orchestrations and whatnot really make it a lot more interesting to listen to than a lot of the jam-based stuff many groups were doing at the time. Tight performances and a great span of moods and styles make this one a very replay-able album.

Ramones - Leave Home - This one just came on in shuffle. There's only a handful of tracks on here that I like, namely Glad To See You Go, Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment and Carbona Not Glue. So catchy!

Traveling Wilburys - Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3 - My less preferred of the two Traveling Wilburys albums, but I still really like a few of the songs on here, like She's My Baby (that guitar solo ROCKS) and Wilbury Twist, which is plenty of fun. Some of the other folk rock tracks on here are enjoyable, too, for nostalgia's sake more than anything.

Jeff Beck - Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop - A great guitar player's album. The rock tracks rock hard and the softer tracks Behind The Veil and Where Were You are quite beautiful.

Yes - Yes - I've actually warmed up to this one quite a bit the past few times I've listened to it. I think I'm going to rewrite my (largely negative) review of it if I find time later. 

Rayuela - Rayuela - One of my all time faves and it loses no energy with each listen. One thing I couldn't help but notice this time around is how great of a track Vientos De La Calma is. What a fantastic and surprisingly original take on the blues. Actually, a lot of the arrangements on this album are very subtly creative. There's no doubt that Rayuela were a bunch of musicians who were as intelligent as they were soulful. They knew exactly what they were capable of and executed their ideas perfectly. Love it.

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails - This is only the second or third time I've actually put this on. I bought it for about $5 a few months ago with absolutely no expectations and I've gotta say, they've been met!  The music on here isn't bad by any means but it really amounts to little more than a lot of very typical pentatonic rock/country/blues jamming, sort of like a less inspired Grateful Dead performance. Love the cover art, though!
