Two random guys agreed to shake hands. Just Because. They felt like it, you know. It was an agreement of sorts...a random agreement.

It may not be 100% accurate, since with prog I have gotten to know so many artists I do love. But it's been in my mind for a while already that if I had to make a top artists list for me, I could only go for 5, if I try to put more I would start having too many doubts about which ones would make the cut or not. However, my top 5 would be: 1. Pink Floyd. 2. Yes. - Dream Theater. - Rick Wakeman. - Mike Oldfield.
I'm only sure Pink Floyd and Yes are number 1 & 2, the other 3 I'm not really sure. And I have to include this solo artists because... well, those are my favourite artists.

Canterbury Scene:- Caravan - Hatfield and the North - Supersister - Gong - Soft Machine Crossover Prog: - Moody Blues - Mike Oldfield - Barclay James harvest - Saga - Kate Bush Neoprog: - Marillion - IQ - Twelfth Night - Pendragon - Fish Psychedelic/spacerock - Eloy - Ozric Spacefolk - Pink Floyd - Hawkwind - ColorStar Prog related - Asia - Queen - Magnum - Wishbone Ash - Triumph Symphonic prog - Camel - Renaissance - The Flower Kings - Yes - Kansas Heavy prog - Anekdoten - Enchant - Uriah Heep - Porcupine Tree - Rush Eclectic Prog - Gentle Giant - King Crimson - The Tangent - Manfred Mann's Earth Band - UK Jazzrock / fusion - Kraan - Chick Corea - Uzva - Return to Forever - Maneige Progfolk - Jethro Tull - Ian Anderson - Red Jasper - Gryphon Rock Progressivo Italiano - Alusa Fallax - Le Orme - PFM - Museo Rosenbach - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso Progressive Electronic - Tangerine Dream - Klaus Schulze - Robert Rich - Eddie Jobson - Tim Blake There are a lot (a LOT) of artists not on the website, wich are progressive (Tears for Fears, Rupert Hine, Jean Michel Jarre etc. etc.) I really don't like Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath en Metallica on the website, wich sound like bluecollar hardrock to me, and are far from progressive to me, while a lot of more serieus artists are not mentioned on the website. The list I made, features bands/artists on the website, but (as said) I like a lot of artists (Shpongle, Entheogenic, My Brightest Diamond, The Fixx, Sting, Allman Brothersband, Gov't Mule etc. etc.) who are nowhere on this website ( pity). Even Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye have more progessive albums than Iron Maiden or Metallica.
Well we have to do with it. have a great day. I'm not mad, it just bothers me.

^ 5 albums /genre, that's cheating
Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Metallica are prog-related, so no problem with them filed under that. I have a problem with other bands here, but not these ones. These 3 bands had at least an impact on progressive metal, that's why they're here.

yeah, I found out, I couldn't honestly compare bands. Some genres are so different. How can I compare Moody Blues to Chick Corea, or Ozrics with Kate Bush? :D
I used to listen to thrash- and deathmetal (Testament, Annihilator, Death, Nocturnus, Dark Angel, Forbidden, etc.) and to me, Metallica is the worst of the worst. They were on a major label, that's why they're so well known. Still not mad, but it just bothers me. It shoudn't bother me, though.
Perhaps it bothers me that Iron Maiden and Metallica are in the same 'genre' as Wishbone Ash, Bowie, Queen, Fairport Convention etc. I guess the whole 'prog related'-genre is a mess.

All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

In no particular order...
Classic: - Rush - King Crimson - Pink Floyd - Eloy - Black Sabbath (admittedly just prog-related)
New (at the moment): - Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson - Karmakanic - Airbag - Anekdoten - Eye
