Topic: If you were stranded on an island... pt.2 Posted: December 21 2004 at 11:31 |
I hope I made this one difficult and painful enough for all of you
I'm going to have to choose Hold Your Fire. Although all three are 80s
sellout albums, I think Rush did the best job of working the 80s sound
into their music.

Not on your life... thats not just Yes's worst album... but one of the worst ever...
I'd rather be caught dead with Invisible Touch... thank God there's not any electricity on that island...

Well, as there will be no electricity supply to plug in a music system, it wont matter.
I would use the shinniest cd and use it as a reflector to attract attention to my stranded body on this island.

I'll take a big generator, a record player and some good albums with me.

What's supposed to be wrong with "Hold Your Fire"? It's one of my Rush favourites.

I'll take any of them - I just won't bother with anything to play them on.

I know I'm swimming against the tide here, but "Big generator" rocks my boat.
I think it suffers a lot from prejudice and preconceived notions. Musically it's well performed and very enjoyable. "Close to the edge" it ain't, but that doesn't automatically make it unworthy.

I'm with Easy. I just don't see why BG is supposedly so gawd-awful bad. As far as "prog meets the 80s," or simply as MUSIC, it is not bad at all.
I tend to judge albums in isolation, as music, first and foremost....
(Thus, I also don't mind I.T, or bands changing their styles over the years.)
You'll see perpetual change....

How are you gonna put "Hold your Fire" in a list among "Big Generator" and "Invisible Touch". I think "Hold Your Fire" is in there because it has an 80's sound and you don't know what you are talking about and don't know what you're listening to (however you did it's your favorite). If "Hold Your Fire" didn't fly way over your head (granted you listen to lots of GREAT music, I'll give you that one) like an A.F.I. poser listening to CTTE you would certainly hold HYF in a more respected light.

None of the above..
Oh ok, if I have to choose one it would be 'Invisible Touch' I could use it as a frisbee. As there would be no one to throw it back I could accidentally lose it. If I find it again, I'll mould into a bowl shape in the hot sun and use it as an ash tray.

One of mine too. I find it's a really good album. It's not a "sellout" album at all, because Rush always did just what THEY wanted to do.
