Who do you prefer, prog's most famous drummer-turned-pop singer or one of prog's wildest woodwind session players?

Mel Collins for me. The only time Phil Collins has impressed me with his drumming was with his brief tenure in Brand X, while just about all of Mel's King Crimson catalog simply floors me.

Phil
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Phil up to 1980. After that, I'd like to dynamite all his MTV videos. Mel had his moments, but they were moments.

Not noticing the placement, I say with a certain insincerity, I thought this would be about Joan "shake your bootsy" Collins. Voted for Mel.

Mr. Phil.
Despite getting kind of sappy in his later years.
Welcome to the middle of the film.

Mel. He made a HUGE difference to Camel's sound when he was with them.

Phil Collins' solo stuff does nothing for me.

Did Phil Collins even pretend that his solo work would be prog rock/jazz fusion?  No!  Was he responsible for the simplification/commercialisation of Genesis - partly, but Rutherford and Banks were also complicit.  The prog rock community has been unfair to Collins - who hired Chester Thompson on the strength of his work on Zappa's 'Roxy and Elsewhere' and nearly persuaded Alphonso Johnson to join as well - imagine that!!

Phil, Bootsy and Mel should start a jazz/funk prog band
