Good point, A_Flower,
The Beatles track "Helter Skelter" was arguably one of the first metal tracks ever made however they were certainly not a metal band.
Big hug to you, SmileHug

No, no, read carefully what the OP wrote: he said he found a Camel record in a local record store specialized in metal music.

By the way, I would be glad if people stop saying "Helter Skelter" is the first metal track. Each time I read that, I have the vision of people sh*tting on Jimi Hendrix's grave. Angry

Jokingly, yes - the track 'Ice' (off I Can See Your House From Here') is pure Thrash, bordering on Black Metal, never heard anything as break-neck as that
Seriously, in some cases, bands like Spock's Beard, Marillion and The Flower Kings, get lumped in the 'Metal' section of many music shops - I've seen it - I can't explain why this is.

Merci is a Magma pop album. Luckily Phil Collins did retire, otherwise Nu Metal could have been an option LOL

I wouldn't really consider Hendrix to be metal, just because he plays a hard and mean guitar. Born To Be Wild (June 1968) might be it or Helter Skelter (September 1968) or even Sabbath's first song August 1968) if people don't believe that those two songs really were.

I think I will talk to the owner next time I see him.  I think he's a closet prog fan whose tastes extend beyond metal and has some reflections of this  in his inventory.
More heavy prog, please!

I regret not having bought that Jacula album decades ago. The reason was that Jacula was a quite famous porn-comics character in the 70s (a female vampire) and I actually tought that taking a bus with that album in my hands could have been embarassing...

Awww you sweet grumpy one! Smile Hendrix and Beatles were '67 and '68, Helter Skelter was released in '68 and the Beatles made it popular by getting it radio plays. Wink
Big hug to you, CPicard Big smileHug

Actually many prog rock covers look like hard rock or heavy metal ones. The first time I saw Asia's debut I Thought it was a metal band. Roger Dean has done artwork for Uriah Heep, and Mark Wilkinson did for Judas Priest as well as for Marillion and Fish. Camel covers, on the other hand don't look very metal like to me

Oh yes Surrogate Smile Roger Dean, made some of the most and iconic album covers, among my favorites are Demons and Wizards plus Magicians Birthday, also the album cover for Budgie is brilliant! ApproveClap

Hey, but who needs drums?

If you haven't heard these two, do so. Fabulous. I saw them one night on Public TV, and went out and bought 3 CDs the next day.

P.S. And just to stay on topic, no, Camel is not a metal band.
