Just realised that I was born in the year that saw a large amount of great music - 1973. Just check the top 10 of tgat year on PA. Selling England is only the tip of the iceberg...

I think this field was way more interesting back then, so many visionaries with completely new ideas and so much technology that appeared in the 70's that is still widely used today. Now it just seems stagnant.

simple answer: Punk rebelled against clever moozik (corporate suits aka record labels promoted this because prog bands were not easily fooled) and metal this I don't know, however because prog listeners are very presumptuous, unwelcoming and pompous, rap artists are making it big because they support each other and this is insane really.

Punk came around at the the time prog was really peaking.   The crappy prog was made when then the prog artists tried being more commercial.  Giant For A Day, for example.  I like that album more than I used to BTW.  I don't get the metal as prog that has happened to this site since I've joined.  Then again, a lot of non-prog genres have embraced a little prog here and there as their formulas have become stale...
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I turned sixty-five last October which means I was twelve years old when the British Invasion hit the US.
That was a great time to start collecting albums because I was buying the "classics" as soon as they hit the record store.

No, they just should make them radio buttons of the age-appropriate size: for those in the 18 to 40 bracket - regular size, for above 41 - the size of a beer coaster. Should help with aiming :)
