Miles Davis isn't prog, not even proto-prog or prog-related. But Beethoven, Brahms or Vivaldi are proto-prog.
If your song has an introduction, three movements, a conclusions, is written on a 9/7 rhythm, but only lasts three minutes, it's not prog. If your song has a AABA structure (verse/verse/chorus/verse), but lasts 10 minutes because you repeat this struture two or three times, it's prog. Death metal bands can not be prog, because their vocalists growl and don't sing in high-pitched vocals. Ban Mike Oldfield from PA! |

There is no such thing as progressive music, it's all a progressive illusion.

Glass Hammer is by far the most original and talented prog band to be making music today... or in any day.

King Crimson's alleged masterpiece Starless was just a rough draft of what was to become UK's Carrying No Cross.

The Beatles never existed. All of you had been misreading the title of an ethnomusicology anthology series: "The Beats of Les", Les being a small island between England and Netherlands, which happen to disappear in a big flood in 1970.
These records are the last remnants of the culture of this small island. |

Paul McCartney is not dead. In fact he might never have lived and could be a fictional entity. This makes him the Christian Rosenkreutz of Rock music.
A chymical wedding?

Rap never existed: all Hip-Hop & Rap acts are just side-projects of George Clinton, James Brown and Kraftwerk working together under pseudonyms.
And Kanye West is a side-project of Robert Fripp. There aren't no musical innovations for more than twenty years nowadays, every musician under the age of 40 does nothing but copying stuff from the past. That's what everyone over 50 years knows. You can't be creative if you don't use Fender guitars, Paiste drums or Mellotrons. |

Conspiracy theory #2 regarding the mastermind Alan Parsons and his productions schemes.
Almost exactly 40 years following the release of Dark Side of the Moon, The Raven that Refused to Sing was released, also with the engineering of Alan Parsons. Just as Dark Side of the Moon was written as a companion soundtrack for The Wizard of Oz, if you play Steven Wilsons's most recent solo album simultaneously with Gene Kelly's hit film Singin' in the Rain, you will actually hear a raven sing. |

There's no boring music, the point is you should keep trying to get its message, there is NO complexity in music that you can't get after a demanding amount of listening time. Edited by Rick Robson - January 06 2015 at 05:34 |

Modern progressive rock bands are a bunch of pathetic wannabes, and even a fourth-rate band from the Seventies is waaaaay better than the best modern band. |
