I'm in rather a good mood tonight

Misplaced is where I started to like them, but getting Six Of One, Half Dozen Of The Other and hearing "Easter" made me a full blown fan.

For my ears, Fish's lyrics tend to be more oblique and hard for me to identify with; whereas, Hogarth's lyrics tend to be less ambiguous and symbolic and easier for me to connect with.

Pretty much. It would be a boring world if we weren't.

Haha, probably. But we're both great guys and excellent cooks, right? Unless you want me to be the Uninvited Guest, of course. ;-)

A while ago I bought a box set of 4 Marillion albums and forgot about it - because at the same time I got Misplaced Childhood, Fugazi, and Jester and played the hell out of those.

The boxset has Misplaced Childhood but also Grasping at Straws, Seasons End, and Holidays in Eden.

Had a 2 hour drive last night so I listened to Grasping at Straws and Seasons End for the first time.

Enjoyed Grasping at Straws, but had mixed feelings about Seasons.
The first song was a good solid  'we're still here' and as someone mentioned earlier Easter is a gorgeous song - but I started having problems with the 3rd tune on.

Hogarth has a raspy voice and unless the music stays strong I found (starting with the 3rd song) the band started sounding a little like a soft metal band. I found his vocals got lost in a few of the tunes and the keyboards virtually disappeared.

The thing about Fish is that he stayed on top of the music, a clear unique voice that led the songs ...
I didn't feel that way about Seasons end after the first couple of songs.

I don't know much about Marillion but it left me with the impression that Fish also wrote the music/lyrics?

I dunno - those were my impressions anyway.  Next Trip I'll play Holidays in Eden

Hi Fellow !    Jeez, I haven't posted on here for a while either. I still drop by from time to time, and am glad to see the Round Table still alive.   I'm still listening, and am looking forward to MW15 in a few months. Will be great to see both Anorak and Marbles played in their entiriety. Kenmar and his wife will be coming to stay with us this year, and we all should have a really nice time.  Eric, there's still room for you, and Denise and I would love to see you again, so I hope you change your mind.   Laz, are you coming across the pond ?

Mr. Perry makes his grand appearance. I'm not sure how long I'll stick around. Could be for a long bit, though. Nice to get caught up with certain members.

You know I'll be there if I can, Steve. Some things just need to level off (as you well know). At this point, I'm not even sure I'd enjoy myself knowing there's some stuff that need to really change.

You should vote on Mickey's band vs. band poll. At present time, Marillion is destroying Voivod. ClapClapClap

Hey Steve. Great to hear from you. My, the old gang is getting back together. All we need is for Joel to make a reappearance!

The chances of me coming over the pond are extremely remote, I am afraid. Indeed, with caring for my wife's parents, my mother, and a full time job which gets more ridiculous,y demanding, I cannot even get to the UK weekend

You never know, though. One day...........

I'm off to see Marillion again tomorrow for the third time in three years Tongue.  That after not seeing them live for over fiteen years!!  They are playing at The Ritz in Manchester, a strange venue it has to be said.  It has an infamous sticky floor which is considerably bouncy - it is also a nightclub that has a reputation of considerable (dis)repute in these parts over the years LOL.

I couldn't resist taking a peek at their recent setlists Embarrassed, different to say the least with Clutching At Straws featuring prominentlyShocked.  Not the best news for a confirmed h-era guy like me.  Anyway I'm expecting some gems no matter what, I'll pop back on thursday to report.......

Not my best Marillion experience if I'm being honest.

We had a pretty bloody awful view, why are prog fans all the same height as NBA superstars?  And I'm over 6 feet tall.  It was a far from ideal setlist, Clutching at Straws and Seasons End featuring heavily (the version of Seasons End the track was however sublime).  Generally the tracks they played tended to be those I least prefer from those albums, with a few exceptions.  Nothing at all was played from several favourite albums of mine though I do appreciate Marbles will be getting the treatment at the Marillion Weekends next year.

There were however some plusses:-

1.  Fantastic sound, you could hear each instrument perfectly, hats off to the sound guys Clap
2.  Hogarth was in fantastic form, both vocally and on the humour front.  My favourite comment from him "Manchester, it's like coming home - you are always the best crowd of the tour.  Mind you, I say that every f***ing night!!!"
3.  A brilliant version of Woke Up from one of my favourite albums.
4.  They played Easter - the missus favourite Wink
5.  An absolutely staggering rendition of King (I was lost for words)

Now if only I could make that bloody UK Weekend.........

I went ahead and ordered the disc they're recording in (I believe) London. I've heard pretty good reports from the Christmas tour. For some very odd reason, over on Facebook there have been a couple of posts about the amount of farting in the audience. What in the world are they eating over there? LOLLOLLOL

Well I had a pizza beforehand and didn't hear (or smell) anything!

This might be an idea, a clever ruse to create a little more space for oneself

I'll join you guys on this one. While I appreciate Tull they don't have a special place in my heart like Marillion. Even though I'm not a Hogarth fan the Fish albums still overtake Tull.

I did just get the live Marillion Christmas gig from London's Forum, plus the live disc recorded in Chile on their South American tour. I've heard the latter is quite good.
