Hackett is a melodic genius--his playing has moved me. As the great Quincy Jones said on NPR today---"there are only 12 notes---and the most important thing for me is a great melody----a melody is God's voice". I agree and Hackett has come up with some extraordinary melodies.

I'm much more moved by the 3 minute solo at the end of "Every Day" than by the tune "Spectral Mornings", which I agree drags on too much. The Every Day solo seems to have been a huge influence on artists from Mostly Autumn to Collage, and many I probably don't know.

For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night. |

The little breaks on the track Spectral Mornings, especially the last one, also show to me how damn good is Hackett with the melodies...

Wow!! Last I looked Fripp was way ahead, but it might turn into a come from behind victory by Hackett. I've already voted for you know who, but my hat's off to both.

Fripp is a person that has decided to make his personal life a part of his overall message.
Hackett has remained relatively private, as has most of Genesis, as far as I know. I think this is one way how both artists are weighed out in this poll. |

Oh look. Dead heat. 31 all.
It's a bit like having to choose between Firth and Lark's Tongues (any of them). Not going to happen. |

That's a tough one to choose.....I like Hackett's individual solo guitar leads better on the Genesis tracks but I think Fripp is a better overall composer and band 'leader' who really set a tone for future prog rock bands. His leads can be melodic and pleasing but also abrasive and hard to get into at times.
Having said that KC is probably my favorite prog band.

Fripp did appear on a game show with his wife. Other than that I have no idea what you might be referring to. |

Love Fripp but Hackett's style and versatility just rise him to the top.

Horrible Sophie's Choice sort of question this. I can't seperate them and neither can the poll. I'll vote for Fripp to tie the poll up (for now)
