They have become very passionate in their last few albums, they have 1 out Monday and the opening track blows me away around the 1.25 mark. It's like Massive attack meets Peter Gabriel.

Really digging 'Again' from You Look All The Same To Me. Very prog (Floyd / PT influenced). I have listened to a number of their albums and this band dishes up a variety of music. 'Come on get high' from Controlling Crowds part IV is a simple track (more electronic than prog) but grows on you.

After I listened to Floyd to death I started on their bootlegs, demos and unreleased material to keep my interest up. I'm doing the same with Archive and have found some beauts!!!
Undeniably Camel around the 4.05 mark, whilst retaining that fresh Archive Trip Hop inspired prog trademark sound.

Archive musically are very similar to Camel at times imo, progressive loops etc, but with a modern twist. Instead of the flute/panpipes Archive employ the cello and strings.

Gee, I've never really thought of asking the north Londoner three doors north of me here in West L.A. what he thinks of the archive. Sounds like an interesting survey to pose to the patrons of the Cock and Bull pub down the street on Lincoln Blvd. between Venice and Santa Monica. I'd probably be told that I'm daft, though.

To be honest I think Archive want to create the magic of Echoes, Saucerful of Secrets, Mudmen and keep you waiting for the good bits.
Here at 2.55 the Cello Kicks in and you realise they are cut from the same cloth, at 3.10 the 2nd Cello kicks in evoking a bit of that rare teary-eyed emotion that came with listening to Pink Floyd's sheer brilliance.

Surely this is progressive, it just seems to me a tribute to Floyd's Echoes.
I thought the use of timbres merited a Prog ribbon. I'm not sure about what else. It's certainly music for the patient. It takes awhile interesting things to develop. That's a sore spot I also have with Van der Graaf Generator. There were two or three times when they had a droning thing going not unlike VdGG, just missin the sax(es).

You have to be very very patient with Archive, I think even the most ardent UK prog fans find them way too demanding, but I love how they slowly build layers, like Steve does on the end of 'Shadow of the Hierophant.'
I think this is Archive's longest song, a real modern Prog classic with yet another nod to Floyd's 'Echoes' at the start.

Someone on the site here put up a video from a live performance and I loved it, bought the cd but could only muster 3 stars overall despite that one amazing tune.
