No disrespect to anyone in particular. This just seemed so apropriate to the discussion at hand.

I've been MIA for a couple of weeks and want to know what the basis for this howlingly funny spat is, so I can get involved. It's a riot.

I think it was me who was the instigator by making a comment about the obscure Canadian band, Rush. I think I said that I got over them long, long ago in my years of adolesence and Mr. Lee took offence to this comment and had to start a war which will be impossible to be resolved without his satisfactory apology, because I am sick of apolgizing. So be a man Mr. Lee and swallow your pride.

Are you sure it was James? He doesn't seem to be a big Rush fan to me. Now Reed is a Rush muncher. Could this whole thing have been a mistake, a bad dream? Wouldn't GDUB be the man to swallow someone's pride?

I don't smoke weed, but someone needs a smooth spliff.

Oh I remember that post, vibe sent it in huge letters for some reason. So that was it? That was the catalyst?

How disappointing.

I was expecting racist taunts, familial insults, perhaps slurs cast on each other's sexuality/spouses/ability to control a weapon of mass destruction/choice of footwear.

ah well....

Could this really be a case of mistaken identity!?Confused

The nearest I can find to a problem between Vibe and James is in the "Reviews that stand out thread" starting around page 8, but it's little more than a tiff.

I've searched the forum for any threads which have "Rush", "Vibrationbaby" and "James Lee" in them, but can't find the one which caused the probem.

No way I'm getting involved(!), but has anyone actually found the offending thread?

You are overreacting to a flippant remark made, quite obviously, in a pissing up the wall contest.

Now take deep breaths..................and chill!

Oh course Canada was at war from the start. They were still part of the United Kingdom back in those days.

No, we weren't, and anyway, what would our political affiliation have to do with our citizens dying to preserve the freedom of people like you? (no insult intended)

Sorry Reed, I never talke my freedom for granted, and I do take this subject VERY SERIOUSLY. If you (anyone) respect nothing else, you should respect those who have died, are dying, and will die for your freedom to live in peace.

Time for an apology or clarification from Mr. Gdub,  I think.

Sorry, Peter, but who are you to say what is on or off limits?

I have made a couple of silly references to Pete-o-philes ie paedophiles, not a subject normally associated with humour, but you made no objection then.

We could scour the forum for off-the-cuff remarks and maybe start World War III.I thought that this was the real purpose of the VB v JL thread, I mean VB is not being totally serious is he?

We've skitted every possible taboo on this site and whilst Greg's thoughts are ill-considered to say the least (I'm referring to the Pantera thing, not Canadian military might), I've seen far worse.
One forum member took exception when I corrected his use of "queer" yesterday and genuinely appears to have no idea about his indiscretion.

Now come on...deep breaths...and stop taking offence for an entire nation or you'll end up like PixelPirate.Wink

Hug

Yes, I get your point, Reed, but a little "no disrespect meant to Canadian soldiers" would be nice. There's humour, and then there is the ill-considered joke. ( We all say & write dumb things at times. I have been as guilty as any. I once made a joke about the Holocaust here, thought better of it, and removed it.)

There is no weakness in an apology.

Imagine having to qualify every joke like that:

"erm no disrespect to ladies with blonde hair but did you here the one about the blonde nurse, not that nurses dont do an essential job caring for sick people and going out into no-man's land to tend our dying soldiers..."

Ermm

Boy, you guys sure FUUCKED up the celebration of my 3000th post.

ASSHOLES.

BTW, I love Canada. Even the somewhat chunky chicks during my rowing days in St. Catherines and London, Ontario. I went to Canada on leave once and I never spent a dime. The people were very supportive and kept the beer flowing, while a very talented local band played Doors songs. An incredible night.

Every American has to admit: The Candian side of the Niagra Falls is much better.

Perhaps I over-reacted, and read too much into Gdub's "crack."  I'm sorry for that, but that is one of the subjects that I feel the strongest about. (Plus, I've just finished reading two appalling, sickening books about the Holocaust. There are 1000s of brave Canadians in European graves who died helping to defeat that evil, so yes, any disrespect (or seeming disrespect) towards those who serve freedom does provoke me.

Anyway, sorry if my strongly defending my country's brave servicemen and women has offended anyone....Confused

Thus, wise would-be friends avoid politics....

Broke my own policy on that one.Embarrassed

Personally, I love Canada. Some of my friends from NYC even refer to me as Canadian because I was born upstate...I grew up looking across Lake Ontairo at Kingston (well, towards it, anyway...my eyesight's not that good) and spent some time in Halifax, both of which I consider to be some of the nicest cities I've visited. I'm not a big fan of Quebec, though; the country is beautiful but the people I met were relatively unpleasant. It's definitely not the place to try out your high school-level Francais, trust me.

I even looked into moving to Canada, a while back...let's see what the next four years have in store for us down here...
