I don't understand why Porcupine tree is so praised. When I listen to that I just can't distinguish one song of another and it's all too sad...
I'm sorry, but I also would like to enjoy PT as the others, but it's hard. Too normal...

We don't rate on the song level.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Especially the whole Tarkus album.
Also, I forgot. Any Dream Theater track or any Opeth track or any Neo-prog track.

Dark side of the moon and Nursery cryme are 2 of the most overrated albums of all time
|
All I like is prog related bands beginning late 60's/early 70's. Their music from 1968 - 83 has the composition and sound which will never be beaten. Perfect blend of jazz, classical, folk and rock.

- Dark Side Of The Moon (mostly Time, Money) - Battle Of Epping Forest - Karn Evil 9 (I think it's too happy, totally soulless) - Flower Kings "Epic" called Numbers (May be a nice song, but overall I'm not into this style of prog) - Whole first Pink Floyd album - Songs From The Wood - Jethro Tull (I don't like the style and songs of this album)

Most Flower Kings 'epics' fall short of epic to me but are rather just very long.
Epping Forest is a yawn indeed
KE9 is one of my favourite prog tracks. Not sure on what level its 'happy' though. ''Soulless' is understandable comment but I would rather call it 'cold'. The instrumental brilliance is what I love about it.

How can something simultaneously be "too happy" yet "soulless"? (Apart from the Teletubbies, that is.)
