Thanks for the clarification !! Eveline did some great cover art-works for some German prog bands - Ramses and Phantom band come to mind.

Take a look at the cover to Wallenstein's 'No More Love' album - now that's more offensive to me....

Hide sexual parts people for google....as a species there is only 7 billion of us on the planet so removing some pubic hair won't deter us from procreating again , again and again

I remember that M@X was very excited with "The Album of the Month"

A section created to search for alternative financing of the site, to free us from Google, some bands bought space in Prog Archives, and we promoted the album for a month and a cost.

First came Thorman Maxt, everybody complained that the album is crap and that we shouldn't sell ourselves.

Then M@X searched for a new band called Deluge Grandeur that was excellent (If I'm not wrong about the band) and people started to complain about Prog Archives promoting an ugly "retro Prog" album, some members said we shouldn't accept those albums to promote, that M@X should search for really prog albums.

After that, it all went to hell, I had at least two bands interested in being promoted for a payment, but after reading all the complains they thought that "The album of the Month" was negative advertising and told us to forget, because they wouldn't pay to be insulted by our members.

So we don't like to be censored (I don't like that either), but some of us don't like alternative solutions.

This is imposed by Google, if we want ProgArchives open, we have to accept,
You are right,Ivan.  My avatar will stay in acceptance, fine.........moving on......

When I go onto a new webpage from PA, around half of the time Google Ads shows a male targeted gaming site (won't name it just in case) where you play as half naked girls! It is by far more sexually oriented than anything you would get on PA (except that Roxy Music cover...) Double standards Google, double standards

I'm only discivering this issue now... (scanned a few pages of this discussion
Sorry to chime in so late in the (5 days old) debate

Unless we charge for usage (yeah, right, like that's gonna work) or find a sponsor (not a good idea) then Google Ads are the only viable way of paying for it. So yes, threat of withdrawal of adverts is very serious and very valid. The violation warning notice Max received from Goolge AdSense is very real. If we lose Google Ads we lose the site - plain as.

Personally, I think Google Ads are over reacting and Max is being over-cautious, we need to balance the need for complying with Google's Terms and Conditions and being sensible about it.

Are there any alternatives to Google adds???... I know Google is pretty hard to avoid nowadays, but how did we manage before Google was such an inevitable giant??

Good morning guys,

I've seen a couple of new avatar (smartpatrol), problably in protestation and I understand , but i've been thinking about this and if we succeed in implementing something non-intrusive for covert art in the discography section, but we still show AVATAR next to reviews in album pages and collaborator page, we are not going in the right direction for avatar that are "non Google AdSense approved" .

So this left me 2 choices:

- We accept only 'approved' avatar, signature you can put whatever you want , as you as it respectable
- We remove all the places on the discography part that show avatar next to review
Any thoughts ? Ermm
Salut M@X,
long time no read Wink (it's my fault >> too busy )Embarrassed

Not that I'm very concerned about this issue (never had an avatar in PA and my sig has been empty for about a year), but unless you go to the review's permalink, you don't see the reviewer's avatar next to the reviews... and (unless I'm mistaken) the signature is only visible in the forum, therefore not linked to the reviews or database...

So yeah, I can understand that some might want their avatar next to their reviews (but it's only applicable to permalinks anyway), so it seems that from my (slanted) PoV, if avatars are not internally censored, they can be suppressed from the reviews, database  etc...
And for the avatars of the collabs in the collab page, well, xould it be unreasonable to ask that Admins, SC, PR and such have politically correct avatars(as much as I can be against pilitical correctness and censorship, Idon't find this to be a maor issue.... at least not nearly as much as the album artworks being vandalized.

I know I am going to regret posting this because it will only confuse things even more...

The search on the PA Home page is powered by Google - it is the same search you get if you go to www.google.com and type:

site:www.progarchives.com country life

into Google's search box, and it gives you exactly the same results.

Now, Google searches are not done on our live website, they are done on cached pages stored on the Google server, so they are searching older versions of the pages, made before Max blurred the images, which is why they show uncensored versions of those album.

Google Search and Google AdSense are not the same.

Perfectly explained Dean. I just wanted to point it out in case it caused us any trouble.

Reminds me of a line from Clerks, to paraphrase: this would be a great site if it weren't for the visitors.Tongue

^ Once covers will be "pixelized", then we'll have to restore them.
