Let me explain. Dylan has been highly influential in style, lyrics and melodies to the generation which has preceeded PFM, Banco and so on. Singers-songwriters like Tenco, De Andre and many others took inspiration from Dylan and from the French "chansonniers".This later evolved into RPI. Just listen to DeAndre' "La Buona Novella", then go for his lives with PFM (the second includes a Dylan's cover, too).

I'm probably one of the few people here who get much out entertainment value out of the late Seth Putnam's various projects. (most of whose names it would not be polite to bring up in polite conversation) Especially the Impaled Northern Moonforest EP is one of the funniest things ever committed to vinyl.

The only thing I can think of, for which I've not found many appreciators on this site, is avant-garde jazz, particularly post-'65 Coltrane. "Om" is one of my favorite albums ever, and I find it sad that it hasn't garnered much appreciation.

This is not a cover. Search for translated lyrics. They deserve to be understood |

IMo you have not made any kind of case that even remotely shows that.

Prog is only one of the main things I like in rock music. Another side is melodic pop-rock. Lots of power pop - Cheap Trick, Weezer, Jellyfish, The Merrymakers, House of Heroes, etc. I also like Blur, Oasis, Madness, Five Iron Frenzy (Christian ska-punk band), They Might Be Giants, Thomas Dolby...

That's strange, I'd imagine many people into something like Captain Beefheart would also have a healthy interest in that type of music. |

Dylan was pivotal in influencing the Beatles to write more serious tunes. His influence on them is more in terms of attitude than actual musical ideas though. It's really a bit arbitrary, and there's no real reason to bring Dylan into a discussion about complex music. Prog bands were influenced by what the Beatles, Beach Boys and other harmonically and structurally creative 60's groups came up with, while taking the classical elements to far greater heights. RPI bands added their own tradition to this.
Anyway, I like a-ha. They are an 80's pop group who put out multiple solid albums throughout the years, arguably even peaking in 2000. That's quite rare.

Coldplay. There's another band I like at times that I believe prog fans generally wouldn't like.
