Oh and this is still in the prog lounge, so the surfers aren't welcome here monsieur Netherlands

Now I can see it, but is it really the best you can do?
How about the infamous Hairway to Steven?

Nahh, but that Don Bradshaw Leather cover is pretty freaky too.
I can see the image myself, but let's just post it one more time eh

Is there a prize?
There are so many flavors of Strange. Strange - Disturbing/Gruesome (Cannibal Corpse and the like) Strange - Conceptual (Hypgnosis and the like) Strange - Otherworldly/Surrealist (Roger Dean and the like) Strange - Creepy Strange - Out of Context Those are just a few I can think of at the moment. I think album covers should have their own genres, just as the music does. A browse through the Album Cover Chain Game thread is highly recommended! http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68436 Here's one I would put in the Otherworldly/Surrealist category. I just picked this up at a used record shop. It's orchestral music, which makes the cover even stranger. Music's not great, but I got it for the cover. BTW, this thread seems to be in the wrong place - ? |

Looking pretty good. On a non Prog note, I'd Say cannibal Corpse has some very extream album covers.
I can't post any images with the device I'm using at the moment, but look into those. Wow. ;) |

Guys I have this really great idea for the cover. There is a very surrealist/fantasy atmosphere with strange vignettes, flying islands and castles, weird herbs and animals appearing here and there, giant rocks, ice caves. I believe no-one ever came up with such a new thing to do

I can guess how that meeting discussing album art went. "Guys I have this really great idea for the cover....."

Great album but I hate the cover - it's lazy and unimaginative, like appropriation art (such as passing off photos of other photos as art). |

I never thought of any Beardfish album cover as strange, but that Pain of Salvation cover is creepy. The Mars Volta Cover is just bizarre.
This new Bowie cover is just strange. Edited by javajeff - August 24 2013 at 21:16 |

I found out recently the story behind that Simon Steensland one ... that's actual a legitimate photograph, slightly modified to have a stick removed. Here's the original: Supposedly it was supposed to be a picture of an unknown primate in South America but that theory has been debunked. http://www.bigfootencounters.com/images/de%20Loys%20Ape2.jpg Anyways, fantastic album, it was my first RIO/Avant (I know, odd starting point), and remains one of my favorites.
