Anyways, fantastic album, it was my first RIO/Avant (I know, odd starting point), and remains one of my favorites.

I never thought of any Beardfish album cover as strange, but that Pain of Salvation cover is creepy.  The Mars Volta Cover is just bizarre.
This new Bowie cover is just strange.

Great album but I hate the cover - it's lazy and unimaginative, like appropriation art (such as passing off photos of other photos as art).

Guys I have this really great idea for the cover. There is a very surrealist/fantasy atmosphere with strange vignettes, flying islands and castles, weird herbs and animals appearing here and there, giant rocks, ice caves. I believe no-one ever came up with such a new thing to doLOL

Looking pretty good. On a non Prog note, I'd Say cannibal Corpse has some very extream album covers.
I can't post any images with the device I'm using at the moment, but look into those. Wow. ;)

Is there a prize?

There are so many flavors of Strange.
Strange - Disturbing/Gruesome (Cannibal Corpse and the like)
Strange - Conceptual (Hypgnosis and the like)
Strange - Otherworldly/Surrealist (Roger Dean and the like)
Strange - Creepy
Strange - Out of Context

Those are just a few I can think of at the moment. I think album covers should have their own genres, just as the music does.

A browse through the Album Cover Chain Game thread is highly recommended!
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68436" rel="nofollow - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=68436

Here's one I would put in the Otherworldly/Surrealist category. I just picked this up at a used record shop. It's orchestral music, which makes the cover even stranger. Music's not great, but I got it for the cover.

BTW, this thread seems to be in the wrong place - ?

Sorry, there is no prize. This is only for fun.  Please stick to groups listed on PA.  Also, strange is open to interpretation so you can have fun with it.

Posted By: stegor
Date Posted: August 26 2013 at 13:48
Ah, PA groups only - that narrows it down and helps filter out the distasteful, thank goodness.

I guess you can add Strange - Distasteful to my list of Strange subcategories.

Hi,

I don't think that any cover is that bad, or strange.

What I find it strange is folks at PA in a "progressive" board, and they immediately go for a thread that has the favorite guitarist or group! To me, that is stranger than ruth or any fiction out there!

With hindsight, Foxtrot of Genesis is weird. A fox-woman singing in a rock at the middle of the sea with whale and croquet mallet. On the beach, there is the cover of Nursery Cryme (who is also weird), men on horses with dogs and KKK. WTF ?

Hi,

Of all the covers Hipgnosis ever did, the one that I always thought was weird and strange was Capability Brown's album "Voice" ... which has the zipped lips.

On the inside of the fold out, the whole band is standing up and singing, but all of them have their eyes closed. And the album is folk/rock to its very best, and on their first album a killer version of "Liar".  Considering the singing in the album, the shut lips is the opposite, and the closed eyes, I guess you could think that they are "into it"?

The stupidest, for my tastes, was the bunch of colored balls in that Nice album through the desert. Takes the definition of meaningless to the meaningless degree, I thought!
