Topic: Top 10 Live Albums On PA Posted: July 19 2013 at 11:11 |
These are the current 10 highest rated live albums on PA. I was a bit surprised at both what was there and what wasn't.

Impossible to choose between "Playing the Fool", "The Great Deceiver" & YCDTOSA 2...I'll go with "Playing the Fool" since I saw them open for Yes on that tour

Easily Coma Divine. That's one of Swilson's best outputs. Love it!

Surprised there is no Magma, considering the huge number of amazing live albums they have. Voted for Playing The Fool, live GG is always a treat to hear

I like this comment I saw on a Youtube video of a Gentle Giant concert:
I think Gentle Giant more than most other prog bands knew that technical
ability meant nothing if you weren't willing to play with it. Even at
their most rigid there was a sense of a amateur, punk energy almost.
When I listen to Yes or ELP (no offense to them) I hear musicians
showing how to play music. When I hear GG I hear musicians showing how
to have fun with music. |
sums it up really well for me

I like this comment too, and voted GG. It takes a lot of guts and talent to mess around with such intricate music and make it work. Playing the Fool is my favorite album of theirs. So many other bands, like the aforementioned among others, largely play what they record. A live performance should be unique and made all the more special for those involved when it gets lost in time rather than recorded for posterity. It becomes and event unto itself and not just another stop on a tour.

The Great Deceiver over Coma Divine Live. Dt's best live album is Live at Budokan IMO. I also like Playing the Fool Live by GG.

Well if this is the best 10 live prog albums???? I'm astonished that so many great live albums are missing, too many to mention.
From the list I'll go with Coma Divine, a superb album and one that might just possibly make my top 10 live prog albums.
