In a way many prog bands already work like a communist dream. All band members are equal but some are more equal than others.

Captain Beefheart's Magic Band leaps to mind.

I'm not a communist, but definitely of the western European socialist variety.  I think most bands are on the left side of the political spectrum (certainly not all though).
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Grey is frequently better than black or white, perhaps only because we are (thankfully) not all the same.

What do you think of cultural marxism (cultural communism)? It's pretty prevalent these days.

Cultural Marxism is a joke. The people who ramble about this stuff are usually far-right nationalist with extreme paranoia issues. Marxism cannot be cultural because it is an inherently materialist conception of social reality.

The fear of "cultural marxism" comes from the existence of the Frankfurt School, who mostly departed from revolutionary marxism and devised schemes to somehow bring about communism through taking over academia and the media and culturally preparing the world for communism. The problem with this view is that leaves out the self-activity of the working class as the source of socialism and socialist consciousness. The thing is, any kind of cultural radicalism can easily be absorbed by capital and sold as a commodity, as we saw in the 60's.

Also just to clarify i'm not a communist of the stalinist (or even Leninist variety). My main influences are Marx, Engels, Luxemburg, Pannekoek, Bordiga, and some of the most class struggle oriented anarchists. I don't agree with Lenin's conception of the party and how socialism is tol be brought about.

For fans of Communism , I suggest Anne Applebaum's masterful "Iron Curtain, the crushing of Eastern Europe" as a must read. One of the best and fairest books ever written on the subject.
Clear, detailed and apolitical, just like a good historical book  should be.....
I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

Sounds like an interesting read. Workers in the Eastern Bloc who resisted against Stalinism are heroes in my opinion.

Been reading the libertarian thread?
Not to be mean but you are very mistaken.
Been at this place for 6 years, and have always been involved in political debates. PA is largely left wing. In fact I'd say near unanimous. Few if any communists but to say a large amount of libertarians? More like 15 manLOL
Also libertarian =/= right wing (who's the one eating propaganda?) but that's for a different thread!

Marxists sometimes sees politics in terms of Marx's theory of historical materialism, so it's natural that libertarians would be called right-wing.

I have the ability to not ruin every thread with politics so that's was that.

I just don't know any flat out communist prog bands, not that I care. Long as I like the music I don't care what they believe really.

Oh yeah don't even start me on the vocals vs lyrics debate.
I rage deeply when I hear "yeah music is just a vehicle to carry the words" Angry

And hey, good lyrics are always a + to any song, but the music is what counts. Also regardless of genre, lyrics always suckLOL
