Maybe some day, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters will take their heads out of their behinds and acknowledge that the early seventies concert scene was dominated by acts like Yes, ELP and Jethro Tull.
Once they admit true prog acts (Gemesis only got in because they became pop darlings), they might stop being the Rock & Roll Hall of Shame (or Hall of Lame).

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

I'm just so glad that RUSH are getting more respect and appreciation than they ever have. I also have thoroughly enjoyed the recent RUSH documentary movie, BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE. An absolutely amazing movie and it kind of brought a bit of a tear to my eye because RUSH was the band that started it all for me in terms of my deep love for prog and it's many sub genres. I am honored to say that RUSH was my gateway band to prog.....lots n' lots of prog!!
Oh and FYI I've watched BEYOND THE LIGHTED STAGE nearly 10 times already. I'm nuts I know.

I was lucky enough to see that at my local cinema before the DVD release. Chocked full of great anecdotes and amusing asides.
Certainly their induction into the hall of fame is well overdue.

As usual I don't care one bit for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but it seems odd to induct Rush before King Crimson and Yes. Seems to me like they caved and put them on the ballot to shut up all those Rush fans who had been complaining for years.

Rush has had far more commercial success than both King Crimson and Yes. Aren't they in the top 10 all time for total album sales for a rock band or something like that? i.e. they have more "fame" than either King Crimson or Yes.

RUSH is easily the best band to come out of Canada. I am from CANADA, and I have to say that a lot of music sucks here when it comes to prog. I mean RUSH are a godsend and they make me proud to be Canadian. Without RUSH, what other really elite prog group can you name??? The tea party? Southern Cross?
Nope. Sorry. Can't do it.

Very much this ... on all counts of the quote.

RNR HOF reminds me of the TIme's list of the "Most Influentual Women", whenever that was? If I remember correctly, Dilma Rouseff and Pippa Middleton were either sharing the page, or close to each other.
As a reminder: Dilma runs a country with 200 million people and $2.3T economy; Pippa wears expensive clothes.

Rush WILL be inducted because of the public vote. If they don't get inducted, Jann Wenner will lead the way to crap bands like N.W.A. or the Marvalletes, which had no influence in Rock and roll. Same case for Deep Purple. But I also want Kraftwerk to be inducted, even though they are electronic, they are influental and innovative in the new wave and the progressive sub-genres. Good news !!!

I am happy for them.....Rush have always been one of the coolest bands around.Their concerts are a fantastic experience and only made better by how much fun they have on stage.

If Genesis got in because of their "pop" success, then they would have been in a long time ago. I think the boxsets that celebrated their entire(with the exception of From Genesis To Revelation) had a lot to with that. Rolling Stone ever gave a great review for the Peter Gabriel era boxset. Enjoy those sour grapes, my friend.

How about Saga? Not really "elite". Maybe Godspeed You! Black Emperor. (probably will be considered more prog than Rush 100 years from now).

Rush, Kraftwerk, Deep Purple and Procol Harum are the prog/prog-related nominees for 2013. They all deserve induction, IMO, but I bet at least one of them won't get in.

Saga is good, but yeah they are not on that major elite level like RUSH.

When I was younger i only knew Canada existed becaue of Bachman Turner Overdrive - Still love that band too !
I think Rush will get in because they have come to public attention finally... the movie HAD to have helped do this.

Whoa. Wasn't expecting that.
I'm going to have to go on over to Rushisaband.com and see what kind of fuss they're making over this.
Congrats Rush!
