8th Inning and the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. Jackson strikes out and then lo and behold on a 1 and 2 count Andy Dirks hits a single and the Tigers score a run. Bases are still loaded and one out with "the big fella" at the plate, and Cabrera grounds into a double play. Heaven forbid the Tigers break open a game. |

What is it with managers and being stupid??? Fister throws 99 pitches in 7 innings, only giving up 2 hits; both of them solo home runs. Fister had retired the last 14 batters he faced. So Leyland brings in Benoit, who hasn't pitched in 6 days, and he manages to give up 2 hits to the first 2 batters he faces. WTF????

Make that 3 hits to the first 3 batters he faces plus 1 run. 3 hits were to the 8-9-1 hitters, and then thankfully he gets the 2-3-4 hitters to make outs and maintain a 5 to 3 lead. It is going to be a nail biter though with Valverde in the 9th.Edited by rushfan4 - September 11 2012 at 22:07 |

Phew. Valverde comes through with the save and Tigers win 5 to 3 to move back to 2 games of the Sox.

What a meltdown by the Buccos. This is more epic than the Braves meltdown last year.

It will be a real bummer if they don't at least finish over .500.

Yes it will be. I'm looking forward to seeing who gets the axe after this. Huntington? or Hurdle?
At .500 right now and losing again today. And lo and behold....Aramis Ramirez goes yard on us.

You guys are so close, and yet so far away. Although if they make the right adjustments next year, the Pirates might end up offering worthy competition for the NL Central.
Or maybe not. It's the Buccos after all. Speaking of the NL Central, glad we (finally) clenched a playoff spot. Now just a win against the Dodgers tonight and tomorrow night and we'll have the NL Central locked up. Looking forward to it. |

The Tigers are up 2 games over the White Sox with 6 games to go. Glad to see the White Sox go on a major losing streak at the end. The Tigers are in good shape with the Sox having to play 3 more against the Rays. I won't count any chickens yet though as the Tigers have been awful on the road this year.

The Braves have clinched the wild card. I'm going to one of the last regular season games tomorrow. Even though the games "don't matter" anymore, lots of fans will be flooding the stadium to catch Chipper Jones one last time before he retires. He's had a great, long career with the Braves, and he's the one guy you could always get a straight answer from in the news -- he felt free to say things (honest, but never hurtful) that the coaches didn't want to. He was the heart and soul of the team, and he'll be moving on now. I expect he'll continue to the be a key part of the organization in the future.

Nice no-hitter by Homer Bailey last night.
Yankees moved one step closer to clinching a playoff spot and the division. |

And the Yankees are in.
The division winner, however, remains in limbo. |

The Tigers' magic number is 1. One win from the Tigers or one loss from the White Sox and they have a date with either the Yankees or Orioles.

Slight meltdown against the Rays in those last three games and now the O's have to play a wildcard in Texas. That has me a little worried.
Congrats to the Tigers Miguel Cabrera for being the first triple crown winner in 40 years.Well done!!! |

An amazing accomplishment, i didn't think anyone would do this again. Tigers will have their hands full. I don't know how the A's do it i mean it should be a mismatch playing the Tigers but these guys believe in themselves. The Rangers have to be very nervous today knowing it could be all over for them in one single game. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Orioles win. |
