2 in a row from the D'backs. Saw the Cards get blown out 15-0 last night. They respond by trading Tyler Greene.

Is sitting Strasburg after he gets to 160 innings a wise move for Washington with them in the midst of a pennant race and with the best record in baseball? I can understand with his youth and Tommy John surgery wanting to protect him, but what if this is a one-time only shot for the Nationals to go to the playoffs and possibly the World Series. After all, I don't expect the Phillies to be a last place team again with that roster being healthy.
I can respect the GM sticking to his guns, but the temptation to continue to use him would have to be awfully great.

The Phillies are a team on a steep decline who will unfortunately probably not be serious contenders for some years now after next year passes. The Nationals are only going to be better going forward. Harper's skill set won't peak for another few years, but still next year he figures to show improvements. Strasburg is the best young pitcher in baseball. He'll get better too. You want to protect that investment. Precisely because they have the best record in baseball, they should be cautious with their assets. They figure to make the post-season without or with him at this point. Sit him down. Let's not forget their pitching staff is very good after Strasburg too.

Yeah! Tigers beat the Twinkies 5 - 1 and Benoit pitched the 9th inning without giving up 2 home runs, as he had done in each of his previous 3 appearances. (I think it was 10 home runs in his last 14 innings before today).

Finally the Buccos get off the slide even with a sub par outing from AJ. Good to see them win one of the 4 from the Dodgers.

Ridiculous, and if I was Strasburg I'd be looking for another team come contract time.I can understand the Nats reasoning behind the decision, but they need to stop babying him and let the man pitch. |

Huge blockbuster trade between the Sahx and the Dodgers yesterday. Seems like the Dodgers got the current best of that deal. Other than Loney, I am not really familiar with the players that the Sahx got. It is weird to see the Sahx "rebuilding" with prospects.

Well apparently, their GM has gone and consulted multiple surgeons and others in the medical field who are experts on Tommy John surgery, and the general consensus is that after 160-180 innings, you greatly increase the risk of another similar injury. I would have sat the guy at the beginning of August, had him pitch 2-3 games max after that, and overall just made sure he stayed in shape. Because now they aren't going to have him for the playoffs. I understand and completely support them benching him after a certain number of innings, but I disagree with their approach for doing it. It's borderline idiotic IMO. |

Not to mention I never thought the Sahx would ever unload $262 million in salary at once (I might be off a few million in either direction, since that number is just from memory and not a cited source). Either way though, it looks like the Dodgers just became huge favorites in the NL on paper at least. We'll see how it works out in the last month or so of the season. And the Sahx are cleaning out the books to start rebuilding. |

A Dutch court acquitted the brother of Seattle Mariners' Greg Halman for his murder due to a temporary psychosis. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8316892/court-acquits-brother-seattle-mariners-greg-halman-fatal-stabbing Seems pretty ridiculous to me.

Drew's cousin Jason Donald dove into my bosses' seats tonight. He sold his seats and wasn't there today, but still got a laugh out of it.

Buccos are getting closer to that elusive winning season. I'm losing hope of any playoffs after the BrewCrew sweep of them.

Haven't been to a game so late in a season, but I'm going to see the Jays/Red Sox on Sunday next week. Two teams who've been out of it for a good few months, but at least it will be my first time in the VIP section of the Rogers Centre.

Top of the 7th. Tigers lead the White Sox 3 to 2. Tigers have the bases loaded, one out and Fielder at the plate. He is facing Veal and apparently lefties are 0 for 19 against him.
Make that 0 for 20. Fielder lines out to 2nd base and it is now Delmon Young's turn to strand 3 baserunners.

6-4 force out and the Tigers do not score a run with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs for the one thousandth time in a row this season. This is so god damned frustrating.
