Here's what I can recommend:

Harold Budd - The Pavilion of Dreams (1978) - ambient with some classical and jazz influences:

Harold Budd and Brian Eno - Ambient #2: The Plateaux of Mirror (1980)  - also ambient with some classical and electronica influences:

By the way, it might help if you read my poorly written reviews that need some serious editing before you give each one of the albums mentioned above a spin. When I listen to those two, I'm just a mental "goner".

Here's one for those who are interested in sonic exploration. Not a really great treat, but still quite interesting, with some tracks worth imprinting in memory:

Cluster - Zuckerzeit (1974):

And here's one from the mighty Fripp (albeit the whole album sounds like a homogeneous mixture of very intense tracks working as one):

Robert Fripp - A Blessing of Tears (1995):

Ah, a little bit of self-promotion, Mr Melt?!

(or are you just a big fan?!)

Either way, I can dig it!

Com Truise! Very interesting, addictive and melodic, I definately enjoy the 80's video game style soundtrack, and I LOVE this 8-bit cover!

Wow, that `Biosphere' one is beautiful too, thank you for sharing!

Hmmmm, I notice both artists have some vinyl releases....!

Good call, Roj!

How the heck has this thread been idle since August?! Especially since Sventonio has been putting up plenty of electronic-releated goodies on his numerous Bandcamp/Free prog download threads lately?!

I'm really rather new to the genre, but immersing myself more and more every day in it, and loving the hypnotic qualities of much of what I hear. If you `get' electronic/progressive music, it's very rewarding and deeply emotional and haunting music.

Why not check out one of Sventonio's recent suggestions:

Yerzmyey - Strange Light Under My Bed:

The artist is offering a free download of the album right here:

http://ubiktune.com/releases/ubi051-yerzmyey-strange-light-under-my-bed

Worth if for the opening track `Noise Reduction' alone

This thread needs a serious bump.

Has anybody got any of the collaboration albums of Ian Boddy and Robert Rich by any chance?  I heard a couple of tracks from their latest album "Outpost" on a Din sampler I got recently.  To say I'm impressed is putting it mildly.

I think I know where some of my Christmas money might be going!!!!

@shra Vol 1 should be right up your street then, as it appears you have a similar taste to me in electronic music.  3 of the 4 tracks (numbers 1, 2 and 4 ) I'd describe as trancey techno, which take some time to build up.  Each is about 20 minutes long, so even better.  They start with pulsing sequencers, then after a few minutes in come the beats.  It really is a true blend of prog and trance/techno and prog - fantastic stuff.  Some of Gottsching's guitar work particularly on the last piece is out of this world. I can imagine myself going crazy to this whether at a gig or in a club.

Vol 2 is much more laid back with an almost ambient vibe.  To be honest I can't stop listening to Vol 1 at the moment.

I read the reviews of Kosmonauts and this sounds great.  Thanks for the tip.

In keeping with that notion, have any of the visitors to this thread ever heard Sula Bassana's Kosmonauts? Prone to psychedelic space rock, this German decided to go the electronic route with this 2010 release, and I really think he nailed that modern electro vibe that is flowing in Northern Europe at the moment.

I've had the track Echo Waves by Ashra for some time now, but recently obtained their @shra Vol1/Vol2 set.  Vol1 in particular is outstanding, a cross between prog and trance/techno.  As a fan of both genres I love it.  Rippling sequencers, hypnotic trance beats and glorious proggy guitar solos.  Fantastic stuff.

There's even track, last one on Vol1 that is pretty much full on trance, the like of which you'd expect to have heard in Space Ibiza about ten years ago.  It has the most hypnotic trancey motif with glorious pulsing sequencer rhythms and then has of all things a drum solo near the end.  Surely only Ashra could come up with this.

I've been drooling over this band Pulse Emitter here recently.

Berlin school style electronics with Steve Roach type ambient. (and someone got mad I suggested them )

Seeing as this is the electronic prog thread, I thought I'd venture out beyond the 'normal' PE - and talk about Material. I just reviewed their Hallucination Engine, that combines IDM, fusion and ethnic instrumentation. Sounds trippy - and it is, but I am almost certain that it will find its way into you hearts, if you just open up a bit. This is some of the most soothing, progressive, forward thinking and seductive music I've heard in a while - and if any of you love The Future Sound of London or Massive Attack, you should definitely check this one out:

There will be two different CDs of my music have coming out later this year. One of the projects will have two ex-Yes men playing on it (Rick Wakeman and Billy Sherwood). The other one is very cinematic and contains a bit of everything including lots of electronic progressive music.

A little peek at some new music. This one is free to download.

^Thanks for those kind words man!

And yep, I've often wondered about what this man would have sounded like - had he not died at such a young age. My guess is some kind of German Gary Numan, albeit with a hefty dosage of Krautrock up his backside...

Getting back on track here, I saw Redshift mentioned and I would just like to say that I too really like this band. Been listening to Ether the past two weeks, and I am seriously loving every second of it.

Think I'm going on an electronic review spree in a little while, although I have so many Kraut and avant ones I wanna do as wellConfusedLOL

One album I feel gets little or no attention is Wolfgang Riechman's Wunderbar. I love the simplicity and easy to follow melodies of this release, and I may well review it one of these days. This is the selftitled opening cut, which I currently have an enormous crush on:

I'm so glad someone acknowledged Reichmann!!Clap Beautiful album, very Düsseldorf-sounding (although there are trace of Berlin school on album too).  I'm astonished how he kept integrity - this track unmistakably reveals it's age without being new wave/synthpop; it uses reggae and remains transcendental without a hint of overused ska/dub clichés which will appear in years to come.

The man was a visionary, I'm wondering what would had happen if he didn't died a tragic death.

I thought I was the only one who actually knew of Aphex Twin Shocked
SBB is a great band, with Memento that EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE. Woianie O Brzek Szkia is also great. Multi-layered proggy goodness.
