I frequently walk in front of cars while listening to music. It must be an epidemic. However, I don't have any particularly funy stories to tell, so, adieu.

Ok,I guess I have to feel like a very special person then, one among the select few, very few apparently, who's not only heard of The Books but who actually owned one of their albums. It was a rather good one so you don't know what you have missed you deeply hurtful and evil people who don't even bother to reply to a simple question. You'll be sorry when I'm dead!

Yes, sorry to say, Pixie ol' pal, but I've never heard of The Books either. Where were they from, & when? Who could you compare them to? |

Grace: KING CRIMSON - Larks' Tongues in Aspic
Review by Ian Gledhill @ 5:33:39 PM EST, 11/26/2004 PROG REVIEWER — Before I say anything else about this masterpiece go out and buy it, listen to it and then you probably won't have any need for this review! After the band was dissolved after the remarkable album Islands it was reconstituted with arguably the finest lineup the band ever had. In between this lull Fripp was giving warnings to the music world that this would top any Crimson recording to date. Deviating drastically from any other Crimson style this album both shocked and disturbed fans. A man named Jamie Muir was recruited by Mr. Fripp as part of his ploy to out do any other Crimson a album. Muir operated a number of unorthodox rythmical devices which added to Fripp's new King Crimson formula which would confirm Bob's threats. For those familiar with earlier King Crimson recordings you will see that the tracks become more complex and heavy. The bass playing of Jojhn Wetton certaily made KC a lot heavier and the intricate Bill Bruford drumming added to the complexities. To complement all this was the beautiful violin of David Cross. Fripp's guitar work becomes more dominant and apparrent on this one so be ready for for the fuzz guitar riff on the introductory track Lark's Tongues in aspic Pt. I. Expect many more guitar experiments throughout this work. The dynamic buildup on the Talking Drum is yet another product from the Fripp guitar laboratory which leads into the exciting finale Lark's Tongues in Aspic Pt II.Easy Money and The Talking Drum became the most frequently played live pieces by the band . If you do not have this in your collection you are not a fan of progressive rock music. I WOULD GIVE THIS MORE THAN FIVE STARS IF THEY WERE AVAILABLLE! Even my high scool music teacher said these guys knew what they were up to! |

not grace: RUSH Rush - In Rio — This is one repeatedly overated band who, along with the likes of the rolling stones should have packed it in years ago. The last time I listened to this band was when I was in high school. For eggheads only.

I hope nobody took that Rush review seriously. I think Three Fates made a comment about it on another thread. I shall have Max delete it. In the meantime read my more recent review for the Signals album.

Peter and the rest of you,I hope you understood that my little hissy fit was meant as a joke? The Books were among the many obscure bands I made it a passion to seek out when I was in my late teens and early twenties. They sounded like a cross between Ultravox and The Velvet Underground with over (or under) tones of many other art rock phenomenon as well,a strange and heady mix, just right for my impressionable young mind looking for the unusual. I did a lot of missionary work on their behalf among my friends but they were all a bunch of Dire Straits and Level 42 fans and didn't want to know about my weird musical taste, but since you guys have a wider musical horizon that most people,I thought I'd check out if any of you knew of them. Obviously not, which means that they were even more obscure than I realized at the time!
