Subject: Larks’ Tounges Almost Killed me!!!!!!!!!!
Date Posted: November 25 2004 at 00:17

Not but 9 hours ago i was walking to band practice listening to KC's fabulous "Larks' Tounges In Aspic" in my cd player, I'm listening to the title cut part 1 and its real quiet at the beggining for those of you not familiar with it and i get to this real busy street and i wanna hear the music but the cars are too loud so i cross real fast so i can hear the part were it explodes into the "da da da da da da" part (the heavy part) this car speeding down the street almost hits me. there was a foot gap between me and the car, i hopped out of the way of getting hit. Hopped. Anyways i got to hear the part when it gets heavy when i finished crossing the street so it was worth it.

Anyone else almost die because of or whall listening to prog?

Yes that is a valid reason, share your experience. I'd like to hear of someone being stocked by someone else on the forum for saying Foxtrot or Animals sucks big time or something.

Ermm  Well, a psychotic young metalhead once joined here, then, when we didn't like his brainless foul-mouthery, threatened to kill us all (but especially me), on another forum (it was a deaf-metal site, BTW -- yeah, I just LOVE that stuff!)

Oh yes: and Gdub, whom I've "known" via this site for about a week (and who wants to have drug abusers and liberals rounded up and shot, before they make his taxes go up, or decrease his property valueWink), wants to kill me because I won't tell him where I live.Confused

That's about it for me and "death via prog," I think.Stern Smile

For now....

Hmmmmm.... Peter Hammill solo -- wonder what this sounds like....

AIIIIIEEEEEEEE!!!!!Dead

If he comes for me, I do want King Crimson playing.

Or maybe Iron Butterfly like in "Manhunter"...that'd be pretty cool too.

I'm a big fan of David Lynch & Tarentino but I DON'T want some cheesy forgotten pop song in the background. If it has to be a Lynch soundtrack, then the death metal bit from "Wild at Heart" would be acceptable. Or even Fantomas' rendition of "The Omen"...no, too stylized. Let's keep it real.

But come to think of it, my house isn't really a good homicide backdrop either. Can we do it in a church, or maybe a cornfield? No, I guess outdoors is out because then we'd need a P.A. or something- I won't have my death music played on a cheap boombox.

So a church. Well, that's kinda over-the-top gothic. Maybe...a warehouse? a factory? Somewhere with hissing steam vents...that works.

Or a firing squad. Man, will I enjoy that last cigarette. No blindfold, though- I want to lock eyes with my killer(s) at the instant of my death to communicate whatever visions of beyond I may experience.

And PLEASE put my body through a woodchipper after death; ever since "Fargo" that's seemed like such a striking image- especially if there's snow on the ground to highlight the blood splatters.

I was nearly hit by a car while using a walkman once. I was so engrossed in the music I didn't see where I was going and stepped out right in front of a taxi, the kamikazi pilots of inner city traffic. The brakes screeched and the car stopped just inched from me and the driver was livid. And the piece of music that made me lose all sense of time and place in such a potentially lethal manner? The first album by The Books! Anyone remember them? Or have even heard of them?

All: Those posts about Gdub "stalking" me, and targeting drug abusers, were just an inside (teasing) joke between he and I, OK?Stern Smile

I'm sure that Gdub is quite sane and ...nice -- with the exception of his (ahem) republican proclivities. What he chooses to do behind closed voting booth curtains is his business -- it may well help to hasten Armageddon and the end of us all (well, maybe not Maani), but it's his business.Ermm

Peace, Gdub!Smile

^ It's called "polling the electorate"

I, for one, welcome Armageddon; if a bit of 'male bonding' helps it come more quickly, then all you backdoor men have my blessing. After all, wasn't it Shakespeare who said, "If sodomy be the food of love, bugger off"? I never get those quotes quite right...

Come to think of it, I have had some uneasy moments trying to change tapes while driving (yes, I said tapes...it's only in the past year that I've owned a car with a CD player). Switching from "The Yes Album" to "Close to the Edge" on the lonely desert highway between Vegas and Pahrump, I've run off the road at least once. Lucky for me there really isn't anything to hit out here except a joshua tree or two.

Shocked Hey, ugly American! Try to avoid creaming poor world-saving Bono and the Edge (guess you really were "close to the Edge" Wink) with your big pig of a gas-guzzling American SUV, would you? None of the U2 lads have the right poultry taste for today's feast- Bono especially is definitely more of a 'ham' entree. I'm salting them down and saving them for Easter, to commemorate the Uprising...or maybe I'll corn them for St. Patrick's Day, whichever comes first this year.

"Vertigo" isn't too bad, is it?

PROG REVIEWER
5 stars  —   Before I say anything else about this masterpiece go out and buy it, listen to it and then you probably won't have any need for this review! After the band was dissolved after the remarkable album Islands it was reconstituted with arguably the finest lineup the band ever had. In between this lull Fripp was giving warnings to the music world that this would top any Crimson recording to date. Deviating drastically from any other Crimson style this album both shocked and disturbed fans. A man named Jamie Muir was recruited by Mr. Fripp as part of his ploy to out do any other Crimson a album. Muir operated a number of unorthodox rythmical devices which added to Fripp's new King Crimson formula which would confirm Bob's threats. For those familiar with earlier King Crimson recordings you will see that the tracks become more complex and heavy. The bass playing of Jojhn Wetton certaily made KC a lot heavier and the intricate Bill Bruford drumming added to the complexities. To complement all this was the beautiful violin of David Cross. Fripp's guitar work becomes more dominant and apparrent on this one so be ready for for the fuzz guitar riff on the introductory track Lark's Tongues in aspic Pt. I. Expect many more guitar experiments throughout this work. The dynamic buildup on the Talking Drum is yet another product from the Fripp guitar laboratory which leads into the exciting finale Lark's Tongues in Aspic Pt II.Easy Money and The Talking Drum became the most frequently played live pieces by the band . If you do not have this in your collection you are not a fan of progressive rock music. I WOULD GIVE THIS MORE THAN FIVE STARS IF THEY WERE AVAILABLLE! Even my high scool music teacher said these guys knew what they were up to!

1 stars  —  This is one repeatedly overated band who, along with the likes of the rolling stones should have packed it in years ago. The last time I listened to this band was when I was in high school. For eggheads only.

Peter and the rest of you,I hope you understood that my little hissy fit was meant as a joke? The Books were among the many obscure bands I made it a passion to seek out when I was in my late teens and early twenties. They sounded like a cross between Ultravox and The Velvet Underground with over (or under) tones of many other art rock phenomenon as well,a strange and heady mix, just right for my impressionable young mind looking for the unusual. I did a lot of missionary work on their behalf among my friends but they were all a bunch of Dire Straits and Level 42 fans and didn't want to know about my weird musical taste, but since you guys have a wider musical horizon that most people,I thought I'd check out if any of you knew of them. Obviously not, which means that they were even more obscure than I realized at the time!
