Keeping a positive outlook, I wish to offer my expressions on why I continue to spend countless hours on this humble music site.

10 REASONS WHY PROGARCHIVES IS THE BEST PROG SITE ONLINE

1. Friendly community - look, its not perfect, nowhere is, but at least the majority of us are friends and get on really well and there is hardly any bullying from what I have seen.Handshake

2. No porn - at least from my POV I have not seen anything like they post on some forums that's disgusting.Head on wall

3. Reasonable admins that don't disappear when you need to discuss things - I find there's always at least one admin around and they are always reasonable and considerate, only deleting deliberate spammers, trouble makers and annoying clowns.Clown

4. Opportunity to be involved - the opportunity to change from an observer to a Prog Reviewer or collab, or to be on a Team is vast here and its a great thing if a user desires further involvement - their work does not go unacknowledged. The reviews here are always enlightening and showcase a plethora of styles that adds to the enjoyment factor. If one wants to find out what an album may sound like one need only read the reviews. Star

5. No swearing - at least not of the profane variety... and F bombs are censored, unlike countless sites, and some forums <cough> IMdb <cough>Censored

6. Vast amount of Music knowledge - this is the pace to come to find out more about prog - no question!Violin

7. Massive database of albums - the album database is incredible - I have never seen a site with this much prog! The albums are all here and with a click of a mouse we can see the track listing, artists and album covers of thousands of artists.Clap

8. Massive database of artists - once again there are artists here you will not find elsewhere and thats something to be proud of and the artists themselves are so appreciative! I know that for a fact as they have told the collabs.Thumbs Up

9.  Gaining wisdom - The progarchives is like a teaching tool - we can learn things about people about the world, news thats going on, the things happening in user's lives, the good and the bad, and sad, and we can empathise with them, and show compassion. I myself know that during my father's deterioration to his eventual passing there was no more comforting place to come online than here, and I was greatly encouraged by the sincere empathy expressed. That is unusual and not something to be taken for granted. Hug

10. Fun factor - Yes, its a fun site with strange people and even stranger threads to laugh at. I have had many laughs myself and hopefully contributed some laughs too. The world can be a positive place of laughter if you look for it.LOL

I actually prefer Wikipedia to find discographys and band info. It is far superior. (except for obscurer bands)

This is a nice nauseatingly positive OP.  But don't worry ACR, people will come out to rain on your parade. LOL

I enjoy the discourse with people from places around the world that I'd never get to meet otherwise and may not actually want to.  (I don't get out of my neck of the woods much, still haven't been to another country.)

This is my first prog site and I'm not particularly interested in exploring others because I do spend so much time here.

I don't agree with a couple of those points. But yes it's good.

Still the best database around for the music I like.  I've yet to find a better one.  The cool people in the forum are a bonus.

This! And I think the list of ACR applies to MMA (except the swearing... damn, this is a metal siteLOL!) and JMA.

1. it's not
2. see above
etc

Oh, your list was "best prog site."  Yeah, it's probably that, but hardly the best site on the internet as the thread title says.  I think you underestimate how many websites there are.

This place is, by far, one of the more friendly forums on the internet. We still have D-bags here, but I'd say the general populace here is very nice (maybe a little sarcastic sometimes). Most other forums, music or otherwise, are filled with trolls and mean people looking to get a rise out of other members.

I'm on 7 or 8 different forums regularly, and this one has overall the least friendly community.  By far.

I'm obviously guilty of that sometimes, but I'm hardly the only one.

Not the only one true. Find it hard to believe this place is unfriendly though. Which ones are friendlier?
