Rapidly approaching my 5th year - though I was lurking on and off for quite some time before then - I do remember when each album page had the discography strip down the right-hand column - that took ages to load and was a right pig to navigate. I came here looking for anything on Tirana, then again looking for somewhere to spam the band I use to manage (I didn't in the end  as I was sure they wouldn't fit in here). I don't recall exactly why I joined the forum, though I'm sure it was to correct some heinous error in a post by someone or other, arrogant know-all that I am. Then fell in with the wrong crowd in the Grey Room and it was all down-hill from there really. I do remember my first "collaboration" - I wrote the biography for Godley and Creme. Then there was Crossover - or just Me and Mickey lording over it like it was our private play-pen (not really, but we can dream) - that was fun - The Dear Hunter, Seventh Wave and Mansun will be the three bands I'm most proud to have added to this site (small victories).
What?

Anyone remember on a band's page, there would be a "Top albums" by the band; usually reserved for album's with the best ratings/most ratings with good ratings?

...Man, that triggers a vague memory of a member called Geck0 with that avy, but that was long before I was active enough in the forums to know anybody who didn't review a lot on the front page too. As far as I am aware, James has always been James.

I entered the prog portal at the end of 2004, and I think I'm on my 3rd avatar (don't remember the first, but had Harry Enfield's Scousers for a while; sadly meaningless outside the UK). I've met lots of interesting people in London, The Hague, Brussels, Paris, Carmaux (RIO fest) and possibly beyond, seen some amazing gigs, discovered some fantastic music and enjoyed quite a few meals, at least 50% of which were curries. I'm not on here so much these days because real life has encroached rather too much, but I still look in most days and still consider myself an active member.

That's sex therapist Sue Johanson.  I used to watch her call in show on Oxygen but after a while listening to people who were clueless about sex became tiresome rather than amusing. LOL

I also fail to remember any of Rico's other avys.

Good God...hard to believe I joined this thing in 2005. Still haven't found that goddamn prog radio I was searching for when I found this site. I want to say my first post was in a silliest/funniest song title thread (or perhaps a list your top 10 favorite GG songs thread), which is fairly accurate with respect to what I do most of the time here. The old days were a blast indeed...Velvet clown, Joren, frenchie, Reed Lover, Karn Evil 9, Useful Idiot, Danbo, dude, Maani...the whole lot of you old fuddy duddies. Wink Great times with Cyggie, Stonie & Ansen in the just for fun threads and plenty of laughs with all the old to somewhat olde garde of the MC/VL/VR crowd. Site was a lot simpler then. I remember being able to download songs from the 'chives, the strip of albums down the side of a page (which was a blessing), country listings, being able to make polls in the prog lounge, and no such thing as crossover or prog related. I also remember a failed experiment with a new forum organisation of seperating everything by genre. Things certainly have changed.

Don't even remember how I got to be a collab, but started on the ill faded Site Monitor team and now I am here on the fusion team. I had a different avy for about 2 weeks and then found the lightbulb of my life. Of course all along been finding more and more great music thanks to this site. What a ride.

Here's to the old gaurd, past or present. Beer

Oh, and, uhh...congrats Jim on sticking aroud all this time. Tongue
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

I vividly recall James' avy when I joined; a beaming Robert Wyatt (pre-accident I think).   That was when I didn't know a soul, but this was the first forum I'd ever felt comfortable at and was content to gradually, somehow be a part of things.  I realized before too long this was definitely my crowd.

Cheers Jim, good thread.

And that's not to forget Alexander (a 13 year old Californian with a frighteningly vast knowlege of the Canterbury scene), Stormcrow, Threefates (with a scarily vast knowlege of Greg Lake ) and one guy I hit it off with straight away... a certain Peter Rideout.

After a couple of years of taking the rise out of each other on the site, he PM'd me & asked if my Vicky and I would care to come out to Newfoundland to spend a couple of weeks with his family on vacation. Despite everything your parents tell you about never meeting up with people you only know online (he could have been a 35 stone Alabama serial killer for all we knew), we decided "yeah - that'd be good as a one off"... we've now been 4 times & plan to go again next year:

The irony is, when Peter & I met - it's as if we were twins separated at birth (I'm the one on the right... I think):

Sweet thread!
My avatars have been

then I liked Gabrielle Drake so much I just rotate variations of her from now on.
such as

I remember The Velvet Room, earlier shreds, the psychedelic words thread, and countless polls about Rush and Dream theater. My first post was "Hi I'm new and would like to learn more about Prog." or something like that. I joined 2008 after googling for Van der Graaf Generator or King Crimson. Until then I frequented the Strawberry Bricks guide TO PROG.

I remember getting invited to be a Prog Reviewer as i was writing many reviews of my collection. After that I was addicted to PA. i am one of the survivors of the Bjork hate club.LOL
