Topic: Poaching - do you think it is ok/fine Posted: February 17 2012 at 04:16 |
Elephants, tigers, rhinos...etc...very bad. Not against culling (but I don't know that there are many wild animal species left in large enough numbers to have to be regularly culled) or putting man eaters to sleep (though it's better if they could capture them and let them live in captivity instead).

Yeah, I know: basically, eggs are nothing but non fecundated ovulas. So, scrambled eggs are just like scrambled... Uh, I will let you figure this out...

How does that change anything? It's still being fed garbage unless it's free range.

I meant that I ate unborn chicks which are still in the shell. Not being a biologist, I don't know how you feed an aviary foetus through the said shell.

Love wildlife and we need all we have. I do fish very occasionally but when I do not throw it back it is eaten.

I’ve already quoted the first stanza of Tom Lehrer’s The Hunting Song, but since you posted this, I’ll give you the end as well:
And there’s ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now,
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a purebred Guernsey cow.

I prefer game or locally raised meat, it dosn't have to be free range (I know many many farmers and ranchers who raise or have raised both free range and not and they tell me its a useless distinction) I eat local not because it is somehow healthyer but because:
a) hunting is enjoyable and usefull skill
b) its nice to know where my food comes from, same reason I garden
c) if I am going to buy my food its nice to know it supports the local economy and not some bloated corperate machine intertwined with fat beaurocrats and politicians
d) its fresher... and somehow yummyer (i feel dumb using that word but its true)
e) I like odd cuts of meat. (if you dont eat any tounge, liver, heart or blood you are missing out on all the best parts)

Sorry - misread what you said... or to be more accurate, read what you said and misunderstood it.
As Tim said, some chicken feed contains meat products - how prolific that practice is is questionable given current public opinion on livestock feed. In Europe and the UK farming is changing, I assume this is true of America too. Barn and factory chickens are fed on cheapest products available. Corn and soy is cheaper to produce than meat, but the meat used is the machine reclaimed stuff (MRM) that goes in hot dog sausages and as that's basically a waste product it's cheaper still. However, much of what you hear about is all speculation and guessing.
