Well unless you eat free-range (which I do) chickens, they're just eating corn and soy anyway.

Free range chickens eat all kinds of crap due to them being free to range - sure they are fed on corn and soy, but they are natural ground-feeding scavengers and will eat whatever is in pecking range, grubs and insects being a favourite. They're not adverse to a bit of cannibalism either given the chance.
What?

That's why I said unless. I was saying that caged chickens that most people consume are not feeding on meat.

A lot of chicken feed contains bone meal and meat by products. It really is mystery meat unless you are raising it or know the person who is raising it.

True. Like Pat, we only eat free range chicken and eggs - since that is expensive it means we don't eat it too often.

What?

Sorry - misread what you said... or to be more accurate, read what you said and misunderstood it.

As Tim said, some chicken feed contains meat products - how prolific that practice is is questionable given current public opinion on livestock feed. In Europe and the UK farming is changing, I assume this is true of America too. Barn and factory chickens are fed on cheapest products available. Corn and soy is cheaper to produce than meat, but the meat used is the machine reclaimed stuff (MRM) that goes in hot dog sausages and as that's basically a waste product it's cheaper still. However, much of what you hear about is all speculation and guessing.

I only eat chicken in the egg. So, I can be nearly sure it hadn't been fed with garbage.

I prefer game or locally raised meat, it dosn't have to be free range (I know many many farmers and ranchers who raise or have raised both free range and not and they tell me its a useless distinction) I eat local not because it is somehow healthyer but because:
a) hunting is enjoyable and usefull skill
b) its nice to know where my food comes from, same reason I garden
c) if I am going to buy my food its nice to know it supports the local economy and not some bloated corperate machine intertwined with fat beaurocrats and politicians
d) its fresher... and somehow yummyer (i feel dumb using that word but its true)
e) I like odd cuts of meat. (if you dont eat any tounge, liver, heart or blood you are missing out on all the best parts)
who hiccuped endlessly trying to giggle but wound up with a sob

I’ve already quoted the first stanza of Tom Lehrer’s The Hunting Song, but since you posted this, I’ll give you the end as well:

And there’s ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now,
Two game wardens, seven hunters and a purebred Guernsey cow.
He say nothing is quite what it seems;
I say nothing is nothing

How does that change anything? It's still being fed garbage unless it's free range.

Live and let live for me.

I will admit though I am a rodent genocidal maniac. Mice or rats are all executed with no appeals allowed.

Love wildlife and we need all we have. I do fish very occasionally but when I do not throw it back it is eaten.

I meant that I ate unborn chicks which are still in the shell.

Not being a biologist, I don't know how you feed an aviary foetus through the said shell.

The nutritional content comes from that of the mother. If the hen is being fed garbage, then the eggs has been made of garbage. If you see the yoke of an undyed commercial egg (or even one that is dyed) and a real chicken egg you notice an immediate difference.
