yeah, that would be 2 shots before overheat if you are unscoped and clicking as fast as you can

I especially used sniper rifles a lot on the planets with the f**king gocart thing, it's easy to just chill way out of range and annihilate an entire camp of geth

I haven't put a scope on mine yet as I tend to use the Assault Rifle the most.  My Assault Rifle on my main character has a heatsink in at the moment and that has really helped keep down the overheating.  Unfortunately I have yet to find too many heatsinks above III level so I cannot fit them on my Sniper Rifle yet.

I'm playing on normal and have 1 shot killed enemy which I was surprised about as this was an unmodded Sniper Rifle with a terrible scope that I couldn't keep still and without any training in.

It's good for sneaking up on enemy from a distance on planets, as Colin says.

By the way, you get less XP from using the buggy.  Although I'd rather be in the buggy fighting a Thresher Maw than on foot (ouch!).

I actually used my cannon on my buggy to wipe a little group of soldiers.  That was far too easy!  I did try it on foot but due to lack of cover, I got wiped out.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to just kill them all with the Mako's cannon than to get out and slowly snipe them all.

I've just realised you have Mako in your name and I should have remembered the buggy was called that.  Oops.

As I said though, the XP gain from using the Mako is only 50% of what it would be on foot, I gather.

It is, but it's pretty hard not to hit 50 in one playthrough regardless, and you're not likely to start the higher difficulties fresh.

Also, I used this name before there were Mako Reactors in FF7, kthx. Wink

Unfortunately my laptop is dying... well, my Graphics Card is anyhow.  I keep getting overheating problems and my machine keeps turning off.

I have a Belkin fan underneath to try and cool it down but I really need a bigger one as the fan only sits under the CPU and it's the GPU I need to keep cool.

Very frustrating!

It's already on Medium settings and I've put it in windowed mode as well... still no luck.  I had the same issues with Dragon Age: Origins (very low FPS) and had to lower the graphics.  Oddly, Dragon Age 2 doesn't seem to suffer so badly.

So I'm a bit frustrated at the moment.

Set the edges up on some books or something (i.e. get it off the table so there's nothing but air beneath) and put a floor fan nearby. Extended the use of my old gaming laptop that way.

Still, this is why I do not like laptops.

I have a Belkin fan underneath which clears the laptop from the table but it's a bit small, so the edges of the laptop (especially where the GPU is) are touching the casing.  I've moved the laptop a bit so the GPU covers the fan.

It still hovers over 100 Degrees though when playing Mass Effect... grrr.  It's fine for normal use though.

This particular laptop is notorious for having a bad GPU and they often do go all together.  Unfortunately I did not know this when I purchased it, otherwise I'd have had this fan set up years ago.

If I had another fan I'd blast it in the general direction of the laptop but I don't.  My heating is now on all day and that may not be helping.  I turned it down from 20 to 15 yesterday but then I got cold... so I'll try 17 or 18.

My old desktop at my folks place is too old to play these sort of games on and I cannot afford a new desktop or laptop.

Oh and this is a gaming laptop.  Although it's also my every day laptop.  I could do with a bog standard one for browsing the Internet and other things.

^Which is exactly why I prefer console gaming. No unexpected crashes, overheating, mass frames per second slowdown, freezing, and none of those obnoxious hours of minor tweaking to play the game as high quality as possible without dealing with reductions in speed and smoothness, at least not in my case.

Consoles quite often suffer from unexpected crashes. Tongue

Mine wasn't unexpected as I knew it was going to happen.  It's just knowing when.  Plus I also know my machine is old now.

With a new machine I wouldn't expect any crashes or FPS issues whatsoever.

I've never had a crash on any console that wasn't my own fault (dropping the console, etc.).

I don't ignore the entire prospect, though. I have had tons of fun with Baldur's Gate I and II, Planescape, Diablo II, Warcraft III, And lots of older RPG's from Black Isle and such.

My mate has had to borrow his brother's old XBox 360 'cause his one broke.  So you'd best be careful. Wink

Oh and yes, we all saw how average the two Baldur's Gate games were for PS2. Tongue

Our first XBOX360 got hit with the infamous red rings of death after a year and Gamestop exchanged it for our current one, which we have had for a few years and don't have any problems with.

That's what my mate had but his was more than a year after purchase.  More like 5 or 6.

Consoles crash all the time. Both the 360 and the PS3 have had overheating problems. The 360 enjoyed the RROD to boot. And holy sh*t, slowdown? ME1 runs at a solid 15 frames per second on the 360. I get 60. You live in fantasy land.

Anyway, back to ME1, I equipped the humans with armors aren't accessible in the game because I don't like how Colossus looks. Yay console commands!

I like PC games better because

a) mouse aiming
b) reasonable multiplayer (matchmaking LOLWUT)
c) I mod the hell out of all the single player games I play

but I'm sure we've had this discussion before

On Xbox 360:

-I've never had a red ring of death and I've had mine for five years.
-Mass Effect 1 always runs perfectly smoothly for me, and much smoother than if I tried playing it on my $2,000 laptop, even on medium settings.
-I've never had an overheating issue on any console I've ever owned, from Nintendo to 360, PS2, PSX, N64, even the goddamn Sega Saturn, man. I'm sure it happens just like some PC issues happen, but it's never happened to me.
-I really hate online multiplayer of any kind. I want to see their faces and yell at them from across the room. I want to time star power releases and headshots. I want to get a couple of my best friends together on a couch sipping pop and listening to music together while running through a new game until 3 AM without being hindered by clusters of cords, wires, screens, and such.
-I never gave a damn for modding anything. It gives me headache
-I can easily adapt to either a mouse or Gamepad, so I've no real preference.
