The following report has been floating around regarding Prince Fielder: http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2011/12/04/free-agent-powerhouse-prince-fielder-reportedly-has-narrowed-his-choices-of-teams-to-three/

Seeing as Toronto is on the list, I doubt its accuracy.  They need more help in pitching than they need a bat, but if he is actually considering Toronto, how much more money would he expect to be making over Bautista?

I'm sure Anthopolous will deny this rumor soon, but I'm just thinking aloud. Tongue

So the Marlins have picked up Jose Reyes. After the intense debates here in the NY area about the Mets keeping him or not...what we knew from the start has finally happened.
A risk with his increasing age and injury potentials for a player built solely on his legs but a damn good player that may also be hitting his peak.

They are looking into Pujols as well.
The Marlins? The quintessential small market team that is just a feeder to the Yanks or Sahx? They are trying to now print money like the US treasury! Imagine if they could land both!
I wanna say the Cards are waiting for a big deal so they can come in and top it, but why even risk it?
Is this the end of his Cardinal era?

Apparently the Tigers and Mets are talking about a trade involving OF Andy Dirks for Mets utility infielder, Daniel Murphy.  I think Dave Dumbrowski got confused when Tigers' fans were talking about wanting to get the Mets' SS.  He is going after the wrong one. LOL

Also, Brandon Inge is going to be really happy when 2011 comes to an end and 2012 rolls around.  This just has not been a very good year for him AT ALL.  http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20111206&content_id=26106978&vkey=news_det&c_id=det

They're offering him a year extra relative to the Cardinals. The fish are dead serious about getting him.

No doubt they are serious, but where on Earth is that money gunna come from? Just not the team you expect money volcanoes from. Power to em though, Reyes has the ability to be a dynamic player and Pujols may be the best player in baseball IMO (certainly in terms of balance). Closest to a true 5 tool player we got right now?

The Marlins going after Pujols makes perfect sense considering they are attempting to become Latin America's Team (if anyone uses that down the line you heard the term here first).  They brought Ozzie Guillen and Jose Reyes in for a reason.  They are looking to be the MLB team to baseball crazy latin america.  They'll make their money back on Pujols in the first couple years and, I for one, hope they get him.  That's probably just because I really want St. Louis to suffer, though.

The Marlins are sure making things interesting.

The Jays made a trade to hopefully settle down some of our bullpen problems by acquiring Sergio Santos from the White Sox (http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=382096).  The Mets took their two ineffective closers from last year, Jon Rauch and Frank Fransisco, off their hands in free agency.

If I am not mistaken, the Marlins are moving into their new stadium this year, so they are expecting an influx of fans and money this year and are therefore building a team that will try and draw fans to this new stadium.

MoM isn't that already the joke about baseball? LOL You serious about that being their intent??
Pretty sure lots of teams would be interested in Reyes and Pujols. Hell, I would love them on the Yanks. Not that I want another $250 mill spent, but it'd be epic to have em. They're great players.

Yes and their attendance has been utterly dreadful, I'm sure this is part of an attempt to get people to actually go to the games. I remember even back in their WS year you could see plenty of those orange seats.

Oh! Also there is interest in Mark Buehrle, CJ Wilson and Ryan Madson from the Marlins. Real latino heat right thereLOL
Where are they getting this $ from? They need to save some FAs for the Yanks! We'll have no one to buy at this rateShocked

Well that explains it!

Sounds like they aren't going for Pujols though, instead signing Mark Buehrle.
Also the year 2012 hasn't even begun and the talks of "internal pressure" are already swirling since their current SS is moving to third for Reyes. Of course it'll be a story and never hear the end of it and anything that goes wrong will somehow be chucked to that. Welcome to the majors MiamiLOL

Yeah, personally I hope that they seriously flounder because I can't stand Ozzie Guillen and because of the whole situation of lying about their profits in order to have the city/county pay for the vast majority of their new stadium... Otherwise I'd actually be excited to see the Marlins going out and signing players and trying to make something happen instead of dumping all their talent every time pay day comes around.

I think the Hanley/Reyes thing COULD be a bit overblown; people tried to do that when A-Rod was traded to the Yankees and had to move to 3B because of Jeter, too, and it wound up being nothing. The difference here, of course, is that Hanley is a notoriously lazy and work ethic-devoid immature player and Reyes is frequently injured. It might cause them some issues, after all!

Oh yeah I'm personally I'm neutral on the team, used to view them as another Yankees feeder series reallyLOL
Yeah I was making fun of the massive story it'll be...but you are right, this time the established team player is doing the moving for the new guy. I'd not have a problem with it, do the team thing but most players are selfish b*****ds. I only know Hanley the player so can't speak to his work ethic and maturity but I don't doubt you.

Marlins withdraw their bit for Pujols and sign... Mark Buehrle? Dead  I could be biased, because Buehrle is completely useless in fantasy baseball (and that's the only thing that keeps the sport alive), but that's not someone you throw a bunch of money at.

Pujols to the LAA Angels!  So, he goes from playing for my most hated manager (La Rusa) to maybe the next most so (Scioscia).  Knowing the eye Scioscia has for talent Albert will probably be on the bench for half the year LOL.

Ooh now the Angels are getting in on the act with Pujols for 10 years at $254 million.  What's that per at-bat?  Probably making more than the average person per 2 at-bats at least Ouch.  CJ Wilson appears to be joining him.

And at least that deflects some of the attention of Vernon Wells.

Did somebody lose the key to the vault in New York?  Maybe forgot the password to their on-line bank account?

Yeah, I think it's pretty childish to want to leave just because you have to change positions... I changed positions all the time in high school because I worked really hard to be able to play good defense at every position and my coach knew that wherever he put me I would have good range and a great arm... It was irritating sometimes, especially when our starting catcher whined about his knees hurting and I got called in from 3B or OF to catch (Catching sucks and I hate it), but I did it, after cussing him out in Spanish.
Hanley doesn't exactly strike me as the Omar Infante, Martin Prado, Ty Wigginton type player that will play hard wherever you put him. He doesn't even always play hard at the position that he's played his entire career! So I'm not at all surprised that he reacted this way, however...

If the Marlins didn't have the decency to discuss this with him before signing Reyes, I can see why that would make him upset. I can't imagine that they didn't discuss it with him because there's been talk about them signing Reyes and moving Hanley either to 3B or the OF for well over a month, but there is a slight possibility that they never actually sat him down and told him what their plans were.

Either way he should get over himself and deal with it, but I can at least see why he'd possibly be upset.
