Dustin, my laptop is over 4 years old and can play most modern games. Sure, not at full settings but then I've never been that addicted to high graphics anyway.
Those XBox games though are usually graphically inferior to their PC version. Plus gameplay is quite often different as well. I mostly buy PC games because the types of games I like aren't available on XBox or PS3 and if they are, they're numptified versions. Plus I like mods. You could just cheer up though, Dustin. If you're playing console ports on PC, you really probably won't have to worry about updating. A game that's designed for a 6 year old console architecture will run fine on a gaming PC that's 6 years old and probably has better specs. Modern PC titles will need an up to date PC a lot of the time, though (The Witcher 2 as a recent example). I think console to PC ports kinda suck for you guys - from what I've heard, the Skyrim UI is absolutely horrible on PC yet amazing on console thanks to gamepad vs keyboard and mouse. Similarly, I think it's pretty lame that devs COULD develop games for PC and then port to console and end up with a great result all round but do the cheap and easy option, from console to PC. I'd probably get into PC gaming if I had the money or desire, there's not enough PC exclusives that attract me and I'm not fussed on 8xAA unless it's ridiculously obvious. |

I barely notice a difference when I switch off Anti-aliasing.

...Goddamn it Skyrim :( Normally arrows fade away after about a minute from when they're shot into your character. For some reason this has stopped happening, so my level 19 wood elf is now filled with arrows and looks absolutely terrible. Might start a new character if this doesn't disappear, sucks. |

Re-patching the game seems to have fixed it. How're you enjoying it, Jody? |

What makes you think it'd be cheaper to port from Console to PC than the other way around?

Developing an effective interface that works with a controller is difficult, and I think he's referring to the tendency of companies to just stick a mouse pointer over that interface, which is going to be less than optimal. And the 360 game won't have to try to develop something there for the upper levels of top tier PCs, which is not so when you have a PC game and then scale it down for consoles.
That offends the PC Master Gaming Race's sensibilities. Edited by Henry Plainview - November 11 2011 at 21:41 |

But why would you volunteer yourself for an inferior control scheme? I just don't understand it. |

Skyrim is so good. I'm about 10 game hours in and it's kind of a lot to absorb. I'm only just starting to use magic, and lockpicking is kind of infuriating sometimes, but I love the game so far. It seems out to beat Morrowind for sure, but we'll see. it has such a better atmosphere and world than Oblivion, and it actually feels kind of real, buth in the character models, environments, and interactions. I love the minimalist interface. Seems really modern and not trying too hard. The leveling up and role-playing aspect is easily the best for Elder Scrolls games, and it seems pretty balanced so far. I'm in the Dark Brotherhood now, and it seems the quests are going to get pretty intense. I just hope they're as epic as they were in Oblivion. Also, my game's not very glitchy at all so far. some slowdown at times, but nothing nearly as bad as Oblivion. And for 360, I'm totally satisfied. Draw distance isn't even a big deal since the environment doesn't look like ass as in Oblivion. Also, mountains everywhere.

I meant for the silly people who actually think it's better. Personally, all the games I play are exponentially better with a mouse, but there are like flight sims and stuff. For weirdos. Stoney, do the people look like horses? Edited by Triceratopsoil - November 12 2011 at 02:52 |

I have already fought...I think 7 dragons in Skyrim. Those fights are a lot of fun, though kind of annoying since I'm mostly a melee-based character. They're a bit tricky, but nowhere near the toughest thing I've had to run away from so far...I've been one-hit by a couple Giants, so any time I see them I tend to turn and run the other way at the moment.

Dark Brotherhood is amazing! Really great questline so far. Absolutely killer voice acting too. I'm also in The Companions (which is insanely good) and The Thieve's Guild (sexiest armour so far). Also, just a heads up: There is a game-breaking bug for about 50% of people in one of the main quest missions which causes you to either reload before or just deal with being stuck in a room indefinitely. The quest is 'A Cornered Rat'. Also also, there's a bug which also affects about 50% of 360 owners that stops textures from loading properly if you install the game to the HDD. Also, I prefer gamepads for basically anything that isn't in first person. Games like Assassin's Creed and basically all racing games are way, way more fluid with one than on kb/m. |

I read that was a bug when you kill a pigeon in the main City, or something. |

Apparently lots of PC gamers hate the UI. Hmm. I presume you're all playing it on console?

^The UI is definitely very console centric. From what I've read you have to navigate it with keys on PC rather than mouse, which definitely isn't the best. The favouriting/hotkey system is without a doubt the best I've seen on console but it did not need to be translated to PC since you've already got the standard hotkeying system. But it's definitely a fantastic UI. |
