Loved Truman and Being John, superb ideas for films, and both carried off well by the directors and cast, though BJM (aside from nearly bringing me to tears of laughter when John goes into John's head) did unsettle me. Good stuff. |

pretty sad list of films; Contact? Independence Day? Kill me now.. I guess New Hope, but what of Escape From New York, Logan's Run, Alien, Invasion of the Body Snatchers('78), The Thing, RoboCop (okay not great but fun), Silent Running, Close Encounters...

Predictably I went for Blade Runner but I was shocked by the omission of Alien, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, War Of The Worlds (original), King Kong (original), Predator, The Thing ( 1st two), etc etc

Outside this list Solaris and Stalker would be the obvious choices. Aleksandr Sokurov's Days of Eclipse needs a special mood to be watched in but nevertheless deserves a mention.

I enjoyed both Brazil (cited by James) and Men In Black hugely (probably because they don't take themselves that seriously) but like Brazil, my fave rave ain't on the list - Dark City from 1998 where very creepy (bald) aliens are able to inject one human's dreams and memories into another to study the results.

I've read the book several times. The original film is a classic genre-defining Sci-Fi movie, the Spielberg effort is a bit of Hollywood ho-hum hokum. If you going to remake a classic, you really ought to better it... |

2001 for me, just over Blade Runner. I'm also a fan of Star Wars - A New Hope, The Fifth Element and The Empire Strikes Back. Some of the films in the list I don't consider to be a sci-fi primarily, and some great ones are missing.

It was between 2001 and District 9, a modern and a classic, but I went with District 9. It has to one of the best films ever made. 2001 was a beautiful film, but the plot would seem a bit unclear for someone who didn't read the book first.

Wow!! Thanks for posting those pictures!! Aren't his eyes (or that red bar!) terrifying?! I loved how he never said a word, yet his very presence was so ominious and intimidating. That `silhouette' shot of Maximillian you posted on top of the cliff in Hell really chills me! That's just at the scene where Maximillian and his creator are joined as one....That was a seriously dark moment
That ending with all the robed figures really scarred me for life! It still seriously unnerves me!
