A humongous list.
Bob Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins and Guided By Voices would all be up there though.

Let's see here.
First, I'm not mentioning any band who is listed on this site, even as related or proto - so there go the Beatles, Bowie, Queen Black Sabbath and Jefferson Airplane.
Mott the Hoople (probably my favorite non-prog band) CSN (& sometimes Y) REM (up through Monster - then they started sucking) Fleetwood Mac (the Welch and the Buckingham years, but not so much the Green years) Hot Tuna (Jorma rocks) The Cars The Police The Fixx Grateful Dead

Tears for Fears pops to mind as I'm currently finishing up a marathon of them.
The Boomtown Rats and Bob Geldof are another old favorite. Currently I've been enjoying Joanna Newsom and Jay Munly.

Head Over Heels is one of my favorite pop songs ever. |
Mine too. I forgot to mention Tears for Fears, but they are definitely one of my favorites too.

I love the covers - especially his duets with Will Oldham and Nick Cave. I wish he'd stuck around longer to do some more of this. Thank Rubin for giving him some breathing room. Go figure Slayer and Johnny Cash would share the same label.

Agreed and his cover of The Mercy Seat is one of his best off the series of the albums' covers.

Non-prog has plagued our fragile earth for too long and should be eradicated.
