I was just wondering what some of your favourite bands are, that would probably never be considered for Prog Archives. I'm expecting a lot of indie bands here... Any good suggestions?

Mine are Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Ween, The solo Beatles, The Beach Boys, Flaming Lips, Wilco, Neutral Milk Hotel, Idle Race, Pete Townshend, Tenacious D, Traveling Wilburys...

Tears for Fears pops to mind as I'm currently finishing up a marathon of them.

The Boomtown Rats and Bob Geldof are another old favorite. Currently I've been enjoying Joanna Newsom and Jay Munly.

I listen to some electronica and trip hop, depending on the mood I'm in.  Other than that, mostly prog.  Paul Van Dyk and Deadmau5 are some of my favorites...

I still need to check out Swans, but judging by reviews I´ve read about them, then they should be right up my alley.

Have you by any chance heard a band called Saturnia? Portuguese psychedelic, electronic trip-hop, indo-raga and very spacey.
Listed here at PA under Indo-prog.

Yes you should, quite an extensive discography, so I would recommend
1. The Great Annihilator
2. While Light From the Mouth of Infinity
3. Children of God

The Smashing Pumpkins,The Doors, The Beatles, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Led Zeppelin, Sonic Youth, Steely Dan, The Band, The Velvet Underground, Alice In Chains, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Soundgarden, Silversun Pickups, The Cure. Alot of these bands in my list would fit under Prog-Related, Proto Prog and Jazz Fusion. To me Jazz Fusion isn't Prog. It is related to Prog, they coincide alot of the time and Jazz Fusion is a blueprint genre and influence but they are vastly, vastly different to me.

Her music is certainly experimental and progressive, like Bowie's was in all reality, but her music is more analogous to Art Rock than Prog Rock.

Let's see here.

First, I'm not mentioning any band who is listed on this site, even as related or proto - so there go the Beatles, Bowie, Queen Black Sabbath and Jefferson Airplane.

Mott the Hoople (probably my favorite non-prog band)
CSN (& sometimes Y)
REM (up through Monster - then they started sucking)
Fleetwood Mac (the Welch and the Buckingham years, but not so much the Green years)
Hot Tuna (Jorma rocks)
The Cars
The Police
The Fixx
Grateful Dead

Tears for Fears pops to mind as I'm currently finishing up a marathon of them.

The Boomtown Rats and Bob Geldof are another old favorite. Currently I've been enjoying Joanna Newsom and Jay Munly.

Head Over Heels is one of my favorite pop songs ever.

Mine too.  I forgot to mention Tears for Fears, but they are definitely one of my favorites too.

Glad to see another Cash fan Alitare! I agree the American Records are great albums.

I love the covers - especially his duets with Will Oldham and Nick Cave. I wish he'd stuck around longer to do some more of this. Thank Rubin for giving him some breathing room. Go figure Slayer and Johnny Cash would share the same label.

Agreed and his cover of The Mercy Seat is one of his best off the series of the albums' covers.

And anyway I told the truth, but I'm afraid I told a lie.

Non-prog has plagued our fragile earth for too long and should be eradicated.
