Cardinals looked like they were going to roll over but now we have home field advantage.
Carpenter is old. He may be my favorite Cardinal pitcher of my 30+ years of being a fan, but he's not the ice he was even 2-3 years ago. But apparently LaRussa rushed him so he could have him for a potential game 5. We really needed Wainright this year.

Last night is why I hate 5 game series. The playoffs should really be like 30 games per round.

I know. Ugh.
And things like the Cards having a BABIP of .600 off of Cliff Lee and a terrible strike zone which would normalize over a large series basically decide who wins a championship or not. |

One of the Jays biggest mistakes of the past 10 years was giving up Carpenter. Looking back though, his last year with the Jays wasn't pretty.

If anything "good" came out of the rainout on Friday, it is that I get to see the Verlander-Sabathia matchup in person tonight, instead of having to watch it on TV. It really sucks though that they don't start the games until 8:37. That is an hour and a half after the normal starting time. With Verlander and Sabathia pitching the game could be reasonably over in 2 1/2 hours, but Yankees' game generally last 3 1/2 to 4 hours because every guy in their lineup works the pitcher. Earliest that I am home tonight is most likely midnight, and probably more realistically 1:00. Makes getting up at 5:30/6:00 in the morning to go to work not so fun.

I never learned about BABIP but it makes alot of sense as a measure of how good your team is fielding for one thing. I wonder how bad the Tigers' was the year the Cards won it all.

I am sure it was pretty bad. The Tigers pretty much threw that series away with all of their pitcher's fielding errors, and the double play groundball to Brandon Inge that ended up in Right Field. |

Gutsy performance by Verlander and the Tigers. Here's hoping Porcello's sinker induces enough ground balls and Burnett's inconsistency equals the final ALDS win for the Tigers. That way, no one has to listen to Yankee hype for the rest of the year. Hopefully, Ken Rosenthal will choke putting on his stupid bow tie. He'll will be without NY and Boston to blather about.

I'm sure that he will have a short leash. Porcello is a good young pitcher but he has struggled alot this year too, so I suspect we will have a high scoring game with both starters gone by the 6th inning. Translated that means that the final will be 1 - 0.
