Shame Nova couldn't finish the game. I mean he was great, but just would've cool to seal the whole deal. Bigger shame they had to call in Mo just to get one out! That would be a Yankees win though ![Big smile Big smile](smileys/smiley4.gif) CC says he feels fine to play tomorrow, but Girardi is going with Garcia as planned. Man, I'd be tempted to use CC...if he was to have a good game and the Yanks went up 2-0 then used Garcia...damn that'd be a great series.

Two more games like tonight and it looks to be the Phils and the Brewcrew. |
I do believe Phils/Brewers are the expected match up.

1st time that I've seen Nova pitch. He was quite impressive. Robinson Cano is the difference maker. The Yanks got all of the good bounces today. Their ground balls found holes, and the Tigers groundballs didn't.
Our 3rd base coach, Gene Lamont, has been an idiot all year, so not surprised that he sent Avila even though everyone knew he'd be out by 30 feet.

Nova went 16-4 for his rookie season (including 12-0 over his final 16) a bit wild at times...but also lights out just as much. Went from "OK let's see what he's got" to a rock solid #2.
Also glad to see Cano has blossomed into the Yankee MVP we hoped for.
For what it's worth I didn't think your pitcher was too bad really, but that's what the Yanks do...capitalize on mistakes. They always have these mega single innings, it's honestly why I get worried because they can be inconsistent overall.
But I feel more confident in our 3 man rotation, the bullpen is one of the better ones, Mo is Mo and the offense still seems on track.

Yep. If Fister doesn't hang that curveball to Gardner in the 6th inning it is a totally different game.

Yeah, for Arizona to have a chance I think they really needed to win Kennedy's starts. I'll certainly feel better if we can win tonight. Hoping Carpenter might be vulnerable on short rest.

Lee is still a much better pitcher even if he's not vulnerable. Then again, they have 3 really really good RH bats. I think we'll handle Carpenter okay. If Lee can hold them like Halladay did I think we can win it.

Yankees don't need to mess with rushing their star pitcher. They have the 1-0 lead and are clearly the better team.

From what I've seen so far the Yanks will be in the WS.

Naw I know, was just saying I'd be tempted but yeah...we already are on a 3 day rotation no need to mess with CC even more.

I really don't think I'm being a homer...but agreed, the Yanks are the best team in the AL. Anything can happen of course. Problem is, if we have a Yankees/Phillies rematch unlike last time where I felt we had a definite upper hand...we don't match up as well this time. At least we havn't needed to face Halladay on a regular basis this year

Yankees have a better offense this year than the last time they faced the Phillies, who in turn have a worse offense. However, we don't have washed up Pedro Martinez pitching for us this time as a Game 2 starter.

Yeah, never pitch Valverde in a non-save situation. You always end up with a heart attack! But hey, Scherzer came up big, and Miggy showed up as well. I'm wondering when Austin Jackson gets moved down to 9th in the batting order. His at-bats are downright embarrassing.

Maggs went 3 for 3 too. Inge 1 for 1 with a HBP. Nice days by two guys who are lucky to still be Tigers. My heart is still thumping in my chest. The Tigers need Verlander to be lights out tomorrow. I don't know if Benoit or Valverde will be available tomorrow.

Indeed...all my fear is rushing back now! At least the Cards won. They have little chance but still it feels good to hope.

That was a tough one, watching that lead evaporate. I have as much fear as you do, probably more.
