Me too but nobody can convince me that the Yankees aren't the best team in the AL right now.

It will be interesting.  The local paper did a position by position comparison between the two teams, and had the Yankees better at 5 of the positions and the Tigers better at 4 of the positions.  ESPN did the same comparison and had the Tigers better at shortstop, but combined the 3 outfield positions and put them in the Yankees favor. Peralta had better stats than Jeter for 2011, but old Jeter is still Jeter and he usually thrives in the postseason.  I believe that both favored the Tigers at starting pitching but the Yankees for relief pitching.

I think the major difference is that Cano is way better than whoever at 2nd and A-Roid is way better than whoever at 3rd base, and Granderson is way better than Jackson at the plate although they are both great defensively.

Avila is better than Martin but not hugely.

Cabrera is better than Teixiera, but Teixiera is pretty damn good.

Young is probably better than Gardner but it is kind of a wash; and Swisher is kind of better than Ordonez or Raburn, but anything goes there.  Swisher was 0 for the playoffs against the Tigers in '06 when he was with the A's.

At DH, Martinez is way better than Posada and/or Montero.

Both teams have two-headed monsters in their starting rotation and then a big drop-off afterwards.  I expect a split in games 1 and 2; and the winner will be determined depending on how these number 3 and 4 pitchers pitch in games 3 and 4.  If it makes it to game 5 then I think the Tigers will ride Verlander's arm to victory.

I think that the bullpens are pretty close too.  Obviously, Mariano Rivera is who he is, but Valverde was 49 for 49 in save opportunities this year and only gave up 3 runs during those opportunities.  He did lose a game to the Yankees this year though.  Benoit and Albuquerque match up well with Soriano and Robinson.  And Coke has been a fairly reliable lefty since they moved him to the bullpen.

The Yankees have way more speed than the Tigers and the Tigers defense is quite suspect with Raburn and/or Ordonez, Young, and Betemit on the field at the same time.

The Tigers won the series with the Yankmes in '06 and this 2011 team is even better, so I'm definitely thinking that they can do it again.

I am hoping Teixiera improves with his move in the lineup. His first year with us was great and since then he just hasn't been the same, the home runs are good but they got him for the .BA

Like I said, I really do fear the Yanks are a paper tiger. I can see em getting past Detroit, certainly not easily, but after that who knows. Their potent offense always seems to cave in the post season and the pitching has given us some confidence but still feels like its being held together by a string.

The only hope is going 3 days rest through all the post season to maximize CC. Guess we're lucky to have such a workhorse that can do so. Nova is young so hope the big time doesn't mess with his head...and Freddy Garcia, eh....

Nothing against Verlander the beast, but the Yanks do have decent numbers against him and he will be in the Bronx...the park built for this team, where a mistake is a HR and he's winless there, with a 4 ERA in 3 starts.

Also the Yanks do have a better offense. This is a damn tight series IMO with a slight edge to the Yanks, I'd feel more confident if CC wasn't walking on thin ice. He started off the year aiming for Cy Young contention and ever since that one where he came back after 2 rain delays....it hasn't been the same.

We all know the spankin the Rays put on the Rangers

If the Yanks don't make it, I'll probably root for the Cards.
Pretty sure Philly is the best team in baseball but hey, this is why we play the game.

Also looked how pumped up and proud that bird is!

Wow I can't believe MLB tried to play that game and cost us the pleasure of seeing Verlander/CC match up twice. Moronic. This is why the NFL is more popular.

Well that and the fact that it's better.

Let's go Phils!

and Rays!

That totally messed up the whole series.  Not sure if it is advantage Tigers or advantage Yankees, but I suspect that the advantage will go to the Yankees.

Depends on the rest of the starting staff, I guess.  Who gets hurt more by having their ace limited to one start*?

* really, I mean one long outing

Yeah, the weather here has sucked, it was raining earlier and is cloudy still. I'm fully expecting it to rain until the WS and ruin everything LOL

Well....at least the Cards did lead at one point.

Can't complain about how that turned out.  Doc settled in after the 2nd and the bats exploded mid-game.

sad thing is, if the Yanks do win this series the rain delay will be the next bullet for the "GAH Yankees were given another one" gun ugh....

Then the obligatory: bought team, bought umps, they cheat, power of satan

edit: 9:04 PM would just like to say rain has started falling....Cry maybe it'll miss the city

Take away the mediocre first inning and Halladay went 7 innings scoreless with 8Ks, 1 H, and only a single fly ball. Wow that guy's good.

Two more games like tonight and it looks to be the Phils and the Brewcrew.
