I know exactly what you mean You also happen to mention some that I forgot. Bauhaus, Massive Attack and Trentemøller fx
I still need to check out Swans, but judging by reviews I´ve read about them, then they should be right up my alley.
Have you by any chance heard a band called Saturnia? Portuguese psychedelic, electronic trip-hop, indo-raga and very spacey.
Listed here at PA under Indo-prog.

Yes you should, quite an extensive discography, so I would recommend 1. The Great Annihilator 2. While Light From the Mouth of Infinity 3. Children of God
Listening to Saturnia now (myspace), sounds promising

Artists who aren't on this site that I like not necessarily non-prog most of these I have more than one album of: Tears For Fears Joe Jackson Psychedelic Furs Stereolab Monade The High Llamas Afro Celt Sound System Tuck And Patty Michael Hedges Alanis Morisette (only have the first album) Buckethead Philip Glass Steve Reich Bruce Hampton's various incarnations Stewart/Gaskin Toto (just the Dune soundtrack) The Eurythmics (just the 1984 soundtrack, which is a hell of a lot better than Wakeman's 1984 album) XTC Stephane Grappelli Andy Summers The Police Sting Leo Kottke (just have the one where he doesn't sing) Joni Mitchell

Cool- thanks for the recs Bonnek!
Seems every time I speak to you - you add stuff to my, by now, very long list
Let me get you back! You need some Exmagma in your collection. Brilliant krautrock mixed with fusion. I´ve read your Embryo reviews, and I´ll be damned if you wouldn´t find Exmagma to be very interesting

The Smashing Pumpkins,The Doors, The Beatles, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return To Forever, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Led Zeppelin, Sonic Youth, Steely Dan, The Band, The Velvet Underground, Alice In Chains, Elton John, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Soundgarden, Silversun Pickups, The Cure. Alot of these bands in my list would fit under Prog-Related, Proto Prog and Jazz Fusion. To me Jazz Fusion isn't Prog. It is related to Prog, they coincide alot of the time and Jazz Fusion is a blueprint genre and influence but they are vastly, vastly different to me.

Devo, Talking Heads (here as prog related), Gang of Four, XTC, Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson, Tom Waits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, (early) Incubus, Allman Brothers Band, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus(!), Coltrane, and various orchestras/choirs playing various composers' music. Probably more, too.
