It is not all horrid; there is some great music in it. I will defend Love Beach till my dying day!

You and me, pal!Thumbs Up

Memoirs Of An Officer And A Gentleman is a fantastic song IMHO

Memoirs is a great idea for a thematic suite which is in some places brilliant and in others quite wretched e.g mainly the lyrics:
Yes it's great now you're a full time nurse, but do be careful with the air-raids getting worse
When I finally marched from Sandhurst I'd learned to put my fellow man first
Dead

Some of the music is great but it sounds to me like a lavishly expensive demo of a 'work in progress' that needed further refinement and fleshing out to be considered wholly successful.

I actually love the single All I Want Is You. It's a great pop song. Full stop.
The Gambler and Canario are good fun tracks IMO
But yeah, the remainder of Love Beach sucks heinously.

Do you just hate prog or life in general?  And it's The Creator Has a Mastertape.

How can it be that one of the greatest prog band ever do something like this?!

I love that song.
Me too.

Me three

It's a perfectly good song.

A tad harsh by way of response methinks Wink and I agree with Timburlane's objections to Epping Forest to the letter.

I don't give half a damn for Porcupine Tree, either. I can't hardly tolerate anything but In Absentia, and even then it's only the first half. Whoever was heaping hate on Rush - kudos to you as well. I thought I was the only one. Don't give half a damn for Kansas. Styx should've been crucified, most Camel kinda bores me except Moonmadness, I loathe most Mars Volta, and Dream Theater? I hope there's a whole new level of hell devoted to them for what they've been doing since Six Degrees.

There's a little dark effigy in my soul that twitches in delicious agony when I read such sentiments (but that would be spiteful and cruel on my part innit?)

I have to agree with the OP on Circus of Heaven. it's an embarrassingly twee little ditty.
Test For Echo is one of my least favourite Rush albums but i'm not sure Dog Years is a crime against prog...Rush left
the genre in the hallway a long time before then.

And not a mention of Dream Theater ? Some of their stuff is criminally bad...in amongst moments of genius there is utter tripe.

Perhaps.... but just a tad.

Jethro Tull- Black Satin Dancer (MITG is a great record, but I can't stand this song.)

Hot Rats is a work of genius..

Anyway, I'm definitely thinking 'Circus of Heaven' by Yes. There can be no excuse for that, not even irony..

The whole of 'The final cut' - Pink Floyd. I find it unbearable.

Golf Girl by Caravan, leaves me stone cold.
Illegal Alien - Genesis; just plain horrible.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

I said all those things because it's how I feel, not because I'd assume it'd be popular.

Most of the problem with Epping Forest lies in the vocals.  Peter tried way too hard on that song.....

I really don't get the hatred for Epping! I really like it.

Circus of heaven, much of Union, the final cut, the Wall & Love Beach seem to me far more offensive......

In defense of Alitare---I agree with lot's of what he says especially the Kansas, Styx, Camel part and only like a handful of the other stuff, particularly Rush songs--because if you've heard a handful, you've heard them all.

Having said that---love Epping Forest---it's a funny, smart, social/political song based on a news story of the time---fit's into the theme of the album (BTW, I always thought Selling England was a concept album about England in the 1970's)---the song is a bit disjointed, but I think it's so British, it may turn off some listeners.

I'm not a fan of ELP, but I like "Love Beach" (not a monster prog, for sure, but is very underrated). As for "The Battle..." is a great song, yes, but never one of my favorites on the album, neither of Genesis. And, yes, "Circus of Heaven" is complete sh*t.

Prog is short for progressive. So there's by definition no such thing as a crime against Progress.

There is however plenty of sh*t progress.

Also stop necroposting. Especially in pointless threads
