Much less nation-building. Mostly conquering. You can't even build towns and stuff; you just upgrade strongholds. There are also these awkward text-based adventures... |

I've been playing Age of Empires again. The very first one.
Gamemako, have you played the new DA2 DLC yet? Most people are saying it's much better than the original game. I've downloaded and installed it... I just want to finish more of the main game first before doing it. Especially as the final boss is ridiculously hard (harder than someone/something I cannot name for spoilerific reasons, I gather). Back to Final Fantasy VIII, which I probably would have finished by now if I really understood the junction system.

1. Haven't touched it. Undecided if I should bother. 2. You might want to set off the boss name as spoilers for those who haven't played DA2. 3. The final boss for DA2 was a pathetic joke. Zero challenge to a 30-minute war of attrition. |

Truefax In fact DA2 in general was mostly a joke, except for trying to fight the dragon without any ranged firepower |

I've heard mostly good things about the DLC though. People greatly enjoy it compared to the original.
I haven't even got to the final boss... I was going to spoiler tag it but there's no spoiler tag feature. I'll edit my post. Apparently BioWare have listened to the fanbase this time. It's 3 or 4 hours of gameplay (despite the idiots on the BioWare forums claiming it's only 2). Plus adds a lot of Lore and I gather it also answers some of the questions about The Maker too. Oh and I gather there's also multiple playthrough options for different characters, plus some different NPC interaction too. Plus they're all voiced too. Edited by James - August 04 2011 at 13:33 |

Keep in mind that one person's 3-4 is another person's 2. I mean, Portal took me under 2 hours to beat on my first runthrough...

This is a lot of peoples 3 to 4 hours though. The people saying 2 hours haven't played it.

Even so I'd rather not pay money for something 3 hours long.

It's longer than that though. Maybe even 4 or 5.
Plus it's better than the original game. I'm not condoning the paying for the DLC thing either. I'm just saying most people are really enjoying it. |

Weren't you the one who just complained about people you think haven't played it telling you how long it is?

I wasn't complaining.
Just stating people are claiming it's 2 hours minimum when most people are saying it's 4 or 5 hours in length. And many of those people who are enjoying it a lot also happen to include people who hated the main game. |

A little late here as the deal ends in 3.5 hours, but it's $3.75 on steam right now. |

I wasn't going to play Diablo 3 anyway, but I think it's great that Blizzard says because people will buy it anyway and f**k you, that's why.

The Activision/Blizzard merger is going to hurt this game immensely, but I guess that's what happens when a company who knows f**k all about a game gets tasked with creating a sequel. Skyrim Collectors Edition announced. $149 USD, comes with 12" plastic statue, paper map, art book and 'making of' DVD. Probably gonna have to pass on this, since it'll likely be >200$ AUD, since new games retail for 109$ in store here. And 200$ AUD it is. NOPE Edited by progkidjoel - August 05 2011 at 22:35 |

That collectors edition is a rip off. The Art book would be kinda cool, but a plastic statue and a map? Pathetic.

Not even I would buy that. Still haven't watched the collector's edition DVD from Oblivion.

Yeah, I have to agree. The artbook might be cool, the statue has no interest to me, and the DVD is something I'll watch once if ever. Will definitely be passing on this one. |

Still trying to conquer Brittania. There are so many armies that will just plain mutilate me, then there are fights like this...
...where my decrepit army, rated at 27% of the strength of the most powerful to 45% for my opponent, utterly crushes them. Why, you might ask? Balance can be pretty bad at times. I almost won a battle once against a vastly-superior opponent, but they had two units of Unseelie Archers left. They just kited my cavalry to death (they run as fast as knights in the first place, which is silly) and crushed my remaining army. Archers and sages are stupid-overpowered. The battle above was won by using a single sage to wipe out 4 units of Welsh Bowmen, each in an instant with a single Lightning spell, and then two other units (some Heavy Pikemen and some Welsh Infantry). With no archers, they were stuck crossing a bridge into my King's Guards, who are hyper-armored knights, while my sage just waited for his cooldown and instantly struck down another unit. Seriously, at least 250 of those 345 total kills are credit to one man. |

Yeah, $150 for the CE version of Skyrim is absurd, I'll be sticking with the regular version thanks.
