Food Brain was a Japanese group who made one album called Bansan (Social Gathering), released in 1970. They are listed on PA under Psychedelic/Space. This is the only song I've heard from them but I like it, it's called "Liver Juice Vending Machine":

I was just about to recommend you this band because you like Tortoise, when I decided to check the thread. ![]() |

The great Japanese legendary guitarist Shinki Chen(aka, the Japanese Jimi Hendrix) was a member of this band as well as Speed Glue and Shinki, The Strawberry Path, Flied Egg and others. Also can be tagged as proto-metal. This album is all instrumental, more a less a jam of prog, jazz-fusion, space/psych, hard rock/heavy psych/proto-metal. The Japs could do "heavy" very well back in the early 70's.

Wow, I really need to work on quoting people.
Thanks for your input cannon. I was aware of Shinki Chen although I haven't heard much from him. Much change that situation.

Many have by now probably heard of the Japanese Zeuhl group Koenjihyakkei, but not as many have actually heard their music. They are the Magma inspired band formed by drummer Tatsuya Yoshida. It's ironic that their music is probably easier to find and cheaper than Magma's. Here's the song "Rattims Friezz" from the 2005 album Angherr Shisspa:
This is another good song from the same album, "Grahbem Jorgazz":
You can read my review of Angherr Shisspa as well as the second album (known as Viva Koenji) on their band page:
There are no streaming songs from the second album here but this is one of the groups best songs, "Grembo Zavia":

For proggers, Koenjihyakkei are not obscure. For the other music listeners yes! But it's good to promote the zeuhl fire.

Thanks for your input PG!
Here's a song from Norwegian Progressive Metal band Conception. I've only heard their streaming songs on PA and liked this one the most. From their first album from 1993 called The Last Sunset this is "Fairy's Dance":

I don't know what happened in studio, I only listened to the album on the streaming player they have on their myspace (upper right corner of the page). To be honest I didn't like it enough to pursue futher. But looking at live videos it seems like they're a trio indeed, at least on stage: I think all the tracks from the debut can be found on YouTube. They were a quintet back then, btw. This one may be my favourite: ^ sounds a lot like early Trans Am. |

Thanks a lot for the vids and link Alex! Yeah, their newest album didn't do much for me.
Here's a song from American trio Baku Llama listed here under Eclectic Prog. This song is from their 2007 album Devour My Evil Dream and it is called "Rapid Eye Movement":

Leah Waybright is an American artist listed here under Prog Folk. She released one album in 1999 called Beauty Gone Wild. I don't know if the rest of the album sounds like this song or not, but this is "Bird-Of-Paradise":

Here's a song from Austrian group Die Knodel, listed here under RIO/Avant-Prog. This is the only song I have heard from them, it's called "Die Wurst" from their 1993 album Die Noodle!:

Ain Soph are a Jazz Rock/Fusion band from Japan. Not really familiar with them but they have been on my 'to check out' list. This song is called "Variations On A Theme By Brian" from thier 1980 debut album called A Story Of Mysterious Forest:
