The lieutenant just called back and asked for details about the laptop, saying someone tried to pawn one of a similar color.  It doesn't sound like my wife's, but there's still a possibility.  She will call him when she comes home in an hour.

In fairness to the UK Police, they can't be expected to accomplish much since you don't even allow them to have guns.

Sorry to hear you and your family had to go through this but congrats on getting some of your stuff back. I moved from the city to the country ten years ago trying to get away from that crap. It's better here but still happens occasionally.

I'm glad to hear you may actually get your stuff back.  I dislike thieves.  My neighborhood has, over the 25 years we've lived here, become worse and worse.  Fortunately, no one's been in our house helping themselves to our things, though times were iffy when the housewife up the street got into meth, which drew a nasty crew into our cul-de-sac on a regular basis.  During those times, I made it a point to know at all times where my .357 was.  I actually thought about killing a drooling addict who was in my garage when I got home from work one evening, but instead told him to leave and, surprise, he did.  So much simpler than killing him, in terms of me getting dragged into the legal system.  BTW, she lost everything, her husband (a good enough guy), her children, her home.  Lost it all.  Last I heard she'd been through much rehab and was doing as well as might be expected.
Ya know, we also had a guy who regularly, in the summer, stole veggies from our garden.   Tomatoes, cukes, onions, lettuce, carrots, whatever we were growing.  I never had a problem with that.  I figured he needed them more than I did.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
