Sorry you have to go through this, especially after a day out with the family.

I had a former co-worker who had a friend who was robbed at a baseball game down in the city.  Apparently this guy had a black belt and the robber didn't know what hit him.  Unfortunately, the guy with the black belt ended up with charges being brought against him.  Use of a deadly weapon or excessive force or something along those lines.  Apparently, he should have warned the would-be robber that he was a black belt before the robber tried to rob him or something.Confused

In a case of "I get up, I get down," I got a call out of the blue requesting an interview for an English teaching position.  I really miss teaching.  Such a day of mixed feelings!

Dude that's just brutal! Getting robbed suxs...total invasion of privacy. Hopefully they catch the thief and you have the chance to stone him...hopefully that is still allowed?

Glad you are all fine!

Tasha is angrier than I am- it was really all her stuff they took (I almost never watch TV).

Now she's going on about the smallest thing of all:

"I'm really pissed that they took the pillowcase!  It was the only matching one!  Bring your own damn bag, a****le!"

LOL

She says she wants a cocktail and a pizza.  Let's see what I can do...

Very sorry, Rob.

I once came home from work early, and caught a strange guy fiddling with the front door of my apartment building.  He saw me coming and ran off to his car.  He apparently cleaned out all of the lower apartments first, and was working on mine.

He got my roommates video game set (I forget what it was, this was the late eighties), and all of my CDs (a few hundred at the time).  I called the police, and while I waited for them to arrive, I called every used CD store in the area (at the time there were quite a few)

The next morning, I got a call from a shop in Cambridge.  The owner had the description of what was in my collection, and told the guy that in order to buy such a large collection, he needed a photocopy of his driver's license.  The idiot gave it to him.  Unfortunately, the thief got suspicious, and left before the police arrived.  The owner gave me a copy of his license.

Later that morning, I got a call from a shop in Boston.  The guy was there.  They called the police.  I took a cab, and of course arrived before the Boston Police.  The thief saw me (he recognized me from when I caught him at the door).  He dropped the duffel bag full of CDs and ran.  I got my collection back.

Despite having a copy of his driver's license, the cops didn't arrest him until about a week later, when he was caught trying to break into an elderly blind woman's apartment.

Not much of what was stolen from my neighbors was recovered.  I'm sure if the police acted on the information they received, he wouldn't have been able to sell all the stuff.

The thief was sentenced to 15 years for blind lady's apartment.  They never prosecuted for my apartment.  I didn't really care.  He was in jail.  I got my CDs back (quite a few are autographed).

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

And I leave my door (well, outside hall) slightly open just so I don't jog with the keys in my pocket.

Sorry this happened to you, Rob.

Damn - seems like scum exists everywhere. My grandparents got robbed not too long ago, but the most important thing they were robbed off, was there sense of security, and now they call either my parents or myself whenever they hear a pip.
I am really sorry to hear this - I hope you get that teaching job. I work with children whenever my studies allow for it, and it is by far the most giving and wonderful thing I have ever done with my life.

I read somewhere on the internet that the police almost never get anything useful when dusting for fingerprints, they just do it because that's what people expect them to do (and it doesn't take much time so it's worth it for people to feel better).

I'm sorry Rob. I don't think the password will help much except protect you from identity theft: he was probably going to reformat the drive anyway before selling it to be on the safe side. I wouldn't have too much hope for even the laptop, unfortunately.

That sucks Rob. At least you can always replace things.

The laptop is a netbook with no CD drive though, so maybe there's that. [/computerignorance]

I don't know.  I'm just disgusted.  That laptop was a gift to my wife.  So was her camera.  She has nothing of value now other than her wedding rings and a pearl necklace I gave her a long time ago.  That is it.

At the risk of sounding a bit corny, Rob, she still has you and the kids.  I'm sure you're both grateful for that, and though it sucks to lose the gifts I know you'll both make it through this.
