I do not mourn his passing. The fact that he spent his last seconds of life hiding behind a woman, says everything about him. My highest hope though is that noone in the upcoming generations will ever experience 9. September 2001 again. That day was a day of utter horror, no matter where you were. I spent that day in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The chills from the falling twin towers was very much felt in the civil war torn Belfast too. That day was honestly the horror of horrors. Bin Laden was buried at see due to the lack of countries willing to take him. Bon Appetite, sharks. |

i remember 2001 .11. as well It looked like something that was taken out of a Holloywood film but only this time it was reality.
it was a mixed feeling of (this word might be wrong but I have no other that I can think of) little excietment
and huge disbelief it just numbed me.with that imense scale the scene was terryfiyng

Since I woke up this morning to this news, my head's been swimming not really knowing what to think. It doesn't feel great celebrating the death of anyone. And yet, had it been my relative killed, I know inside I'd be glad. Killing is nasty business. Perhaps it will give rich idiots pause before getting involved in these activities. They always send off young kids for suicide bombings, never their own children. Perhaps seeing a high profile rich puppeteer hunted down will be a deterrent.

I find the pictures of Americans partying at ground zero pretty disrespectful. Not to Bin Laden but to 9/11. The main perpetrator may have been killed but it doesn't seem appropriate for a party, especially there.

I find celebrating anyone's death, no matter how terrible a murderer, a bit unsettling.

What else would I do?
I don't think Ground Zero needs to be solemn candlelight vigils from now until infinity. |

Agreed. I think those turning out to wave flags and chant U S A have no idea what it really means and are just using it as an excuse to drink and act patriotic.

Perhaps they are not celebrating a murder but they are celebrating peace....
America can feel at least that one threat has been eliminated. The AQ still exists but the leader has been exterminated. That is certainly something to celebrate.

Nobody here needs my minimal enlightenment on anything. Just finding the partying at ground zero to be very stupid.

Was he still the leader though? Is there proof that he was still in a position of perpetrating AQ operations? I don't personally know and didn't see mention of it. Perhaps he was though, if so yes it is a success worthy of celebration.

Terrorism is just a method. It's a method for bringing about a certain political end. The elimination of a leader may weaken one particular organization, but the root causes for terrorism are completely unchanged and unaddressed.

Why? People of the world have been celebrating death for 1,000's of years. There is no right and wrong when it comes to peoples emotions....unless of course you live in a country where your feelings may get you killed or jailed for life.
History has proven their are no moral laws when it comes to war.

Absolutely agree. However, major terrorist endeavours require money and organization. Rich kingpins typically don't believe that dying for the cause includes themselves. This may give some a little pause before going down that path.
Sadly, I see an uptick in small suicide bombings over the next weeks. But the larger scale missions, already on the decline, are less likely. We'll see.

The show of elation at his death is hardly surprising given the bad boy stardom the western media has afforded him for the last decade.
He has become the face of terror, and as such, many people may be inclined to think - wrongly in my opinion - that this is a major victory. In the west many of us take a very narrow view on how the world works. We think in terms of 'good vs bad' when in reality there are merely different and completely incompatible perspectives, which will never be fully reconciled. |
