...Oooh...a Marillion Topic Discussion..that's cool!

Since I had started to listen to them, back in my teenage years in the '80 with "Misplace Childhood" I had never stop doing that until nowadays!!!

I loved listening close to that album, even if the Fish voice sounded too derivative from Peter Gabriel unique vocal style and, as a big fan of Genesis, this aspect really made me feel quite disappointed at first...but the music scores sounded so good to my ears that I ended up got acquainted with that!...:)

So when I came the time for Fish to leave the band, after the good "Clutching at Straws" album and Hogart took his place It wasn't such a big shock to me indeed...I thought that finally Marillion had the right chance to definitely make a big step ahead on the way to create their own musical identity, and in my modest opinion they successfully made it album after album, always reinventing their sound and style but never forgetting the Prog fundamentals of their origin.

Talking about the songs I love the most,  well, It's no easy for me...

"Out of this World","Afraid of Sunlight", "This is The 21st Century", "This Strange Engine", "Estonia", "Man of 1,000 Faces", "Neverland", "Ocean Cloud", "Brave album in Its entire", "No Such Thing", "a Voice from The Past", "Asylum Satellite #1", "Easter", "Season End" from the Hogart Era

"Script for a Jester Tear", "Chelsea Monday", "Emerald Lies", "Misplaced Childhood in its entirely", "White Russian"  from the Fish Era

They are all songs that reminds me of so many things happened in my life,...It's like a soundtrack of old memories, both good and bad ones!!!

Just went on a Marillion shopping spree and ordered Brave, This Strange Engine and Afraid of Sunlight. Can't wait to get and listen to them all

I still need to watch that entire DVD, Laz. I've only watched portions.

The two out of the three are among the best in Marillion's catalog. I like This Strange Engine, but the title track really saves this album for me. "Estonia" is becoming a favorite, though.

Sidenote: with them being so secretive of the convention, I'm wondering if we're getting a death and water theme for one of the nights — Brave in it's entirety, "Estonia", "Out Of This World" and "Ocean Cloud".

Dream away my friend, brave in it's intirety would be great, especially for you, your fav album.  I'll dream of Marbles in it's entirety but you've got a better chance considering they did Marbles only 5 years ago.

I started listen to Marillion a few year ago, when I stumpled upon "Script for Jesters Tear." (I must have been 22 years old, at that time. Im 26 now). That record and "Misplaced Childhood" has been big favourites for since that. The whole Hogarth-thing wasn't me. Untill this summer I came upon the cd with the live gig from High Voltage in London. From that day I started to listen to the new era, and must admit that I really like it. I think I even want to say that now I prefer the Hogarth-era Marillion. The tension in the music is amazing, and Hogarth is really able to push the music in the right direction.
I haven't seen Marillion live before. They don't play in Denmark very often. Actually I don't remember when they where here last time. Probably not since the 90s.
But Fish play here some times. Actually he is on a small acoustic tour in these days, and Im going to see him play in my city next wednesday. Im going alone, because none of my friends is into prog rock and music like that. But I am still looking forward :)
 
I don't know which one of the Hogarth album is my favourite. Im paying "Less is more" a lot of attention. But Marbles, Brave, Happiness is the Road I believe is pretty good.
It's hard to tell, because it depends a lot on the mood im in. Anoraknophobia is awesome as well.
 
My favorite songs from the Fish era would be: Bitter sweet, Pseudo Silk Kimono and A script for a jesters tear. The Hogarth era is: This train is my life, The space (both versions), Neverland, The invisible man and a hell-of-a lot more :)

Yeah, the ticketcompany told me that he didn't sell enoug tickets. So his management decided to cancel the gig. It's such a shame - I was really looking forward to see this..

Perhaps it's time for him to do a double header with Marillion - Not rejoining the band, but just collaborating on the same bill with his own band. I imagine THAT would attract a lot of people !

I never saw any concert adverts for Marillion in Montréal. I remember back in the 80s whenever they rolled into town it was a big thing. Was actually at the Spectrum for the part of the show that ended up on the Real To Reel Llive album. I dunno, Montréal used to be a mecca for music but it has just been reduced to all this f**king Indie dribble. Even the jazz festival isn't even a jazz festival any more unless you consider Peter Frampton a jazz legend.
