Don Cabellero are a Math Rock band from the US. I'm not sure why Post-Rock and Math Rock are combined since each style is very different. Math Rock has more in common with post-70s Crimson, whereas Post-Rock has more in common with Krautrock groups like Ash Ra Tempel; Math is all about complexity and super human playing while Post creates textures and builds crescendos. DC were the first group I ever heard referred to as "math rock" although I have yet to hear a full album from them. This song is called "Stupid Puma" from their 1995 album Don Cabellero 2:

Weidorje was created by two former members of Magma. They only released one self-titled album in 1978, which I think is a great introduction to Zeuhl. You can read my review of the album on their artist page:
This song is called "Booldemug":
The 16 1/2 minute "Elohim's Voyage" is the highlight of the album:

Here's a song from Hungarian Symphonic Prog group Solaris. Not familiar with these guys at all. From their 1984 album Marsbeli Kronikak (Martian Chronicles), this song is called "M'ars poetica":

The Residents are a truly unique and original group. The members are unknown and usually wear eyeballs on their heads. Thought to be from California but most likely from "the South". The following songs come from The Commercial Album (1980). You can listen to all these songs in less than 5 minutes. The concept of The Commercial Album was to make 40 one-minute songs. This song is called "Picnic Boy" and features Lene Lovich on vocals: The album features ex-Henry Cow members Fred Frith and Chris Cutler. Former Mother Of Invention Don Preston appears as well. Snakefinger does guitar but also sings on this song:
These videos are taken from The Commercial DVD, which features different artists interpretations of the 40 songs. Here's two more:

But they aren't exactly a 'household name' either, so I included them. Not all the artists I've posted are extremely obscure, but they generally fall outside the Top 100 Albums/Top 50 Artists lists on here. Some of this music has only been heard by three people in the world and some of it was Top Ten in some countries, but later forgotten.
Tomorrow I'm going to do something on The Residents. They are not very obscure but they are one of those groups where more people have heard of them than actually ever heard them. This is just a way to introduce people to some music they may not have heard before.

I don't think that Planet X is so obscure.

Planet X are an American Jazz Rock/Fusion group started by former Dream Theater keyboardist Derek Sherinian. I've only heard a few of their songs. This one is called "Her Animal" from the first album Universe released in 2000:

Ego On The Rocks is a group from Germany featuring two former members of Eloy listed under Psychedelic/Space Rock. This is the only song I have heard from them. From their only album Acid In Wounderland (1979), this song is called "Godbluff":

The 8-bit EP is rather quirky but does sound kind of cool. Imagine a jazz rock soundtrack to a N64 game

Thanks Assaf, I've only heard that one song and wonder what his first two sound like.
Thanks for the links andyman1125! I checked out the vids too, good stuff. I'm interested in what that EP of 8-bit music sounds like.

Wonderful musician, I have his three albums, all good. I've featured him here (a thread dedicated to him) and in my blog. His last album is where he got extra musicians to play on the album (including a drummer), whereas in the previous he was on his own (and drum machine). |

After Ian McDonald and Michael Giles left King Crimson they made an album called McDonald & Giles, released in late 1970 or early 1971. Fripp called it "the other half of a great album," in reference to In The Wake Of Poseidon. This song is called "Tomorrow's People":
This is the best track on the album, the sidelong "Birdman":

Exmagma are a Jazz Rock/Fusion trio from Germany who, as far as I can tell, have nothing to do with the French band with a similar name. This song is called "Dada" from their 1974 album Goldball:
