E-Dub and others from Canada will have a better idea, but I think they will certainly be doing Holidays In Eden in its entirety. There on't be much Fish era stuff. Why should they after all? |

The first time I heard Marillion was in Titus Oaks Records on Long Island. The clerk was playing the newly released Fugazi. My first thought was that it was a new Peter Gabriel record and that he had gone back to a more Genesis-type sound. Anybody else have that experience?

Well, when they released Market Square Heroes, i read in Sounds music paper that this great big Scottish bloke and his band were archetypal Genesis nuts who had recorded a track that sounded just like Trespass era Genesis. I bought it, saw them live not long afterwards in London, and was hooked (pardon the pun). That very early stuff, MSH, Grendel, and much of Script were very much influenced by Gabriel era Genesis, but also with some VDGG thrown in with post punk sensibilities. But certainly after Misplaced Childhood, the band struck out with a unique sound, and were all the better for it IMHO. |

The first time I heard Marillion was on the radio in Indianapolis- He knows You Know. I was already a HUGE Genesis fan so it was right up my alley. I immediately started buying all the EP's and singles and Picture discs I could get my hands on. I saw them in Chicago warm up for Rush and play 1/2 of Misplaced Childhood.
It was nice to see them get recognition, but the crowd in the arena was mostly there to see Rush of course.
The next few times I saw them was in Chicago at the Park West in the post-Fish era. Those were some magnificent live shows.
I am attending my 2nd Montreal convention in April. If the 2nd one is 1/2 as good as the 1st.... :)

Always good to see somebody appreciate this brilliant band (especially the h era). I'd swear I've seen a huge turn from predominately h bashing to actual praise for what he's brought to this band since I first joined PA. Well deserved. May have to drag along some Marillion for the car today. E |

A few of us will be up there. Myself, Steve (Progfan58) and Kenmar will be there as well. Steve and I were at the last one and it was the best live music experience of my life. I really hope this one will match the last one. Look forward to meeting you. Are you going to the meet and greet at Brutopia? E |

The unique thing about the conventions is they pull out the old Fish era stuff. Saturday night they did "Slainte Mhath" and "Garden Party", and on Sunday they did "Kayleigh/Lavender/Lothian". I'd guarantee that they'll do some Fish stuff. Unlike previous years, however, they're keeping the other set lists a secret. Personally, I'd love for them to do Brave in it's entirety for the North American group. We won't know until the night of the shows. Lucy has already said that they're not revealing the themes. E |

giving my first listen to anoraknophobia at the moment. I chose to get it over This Strange Engine, and so far i'm not regretting that it's got some poor reviews but this is really unusual energetic stuff.

It's a solid three star album, Mark. This Strange Engine, on the other hand, is about four and a half to five. The title track itself is amongst the finest tracks they ever recorded. |

Steve, I've heard that the swap the band will be part of a Sunday afternoon get together at the venue, along with a Q&A. That makes me happy.

Hey, that sounds like a much better proposition that what we originally thought. Sat and Sun night shows remain a mystery then. I can't wait ! Are you going to attend the "swap" afternoon ?

I don't know. I wouldn't mind the Q&A session. Glad to see them doing a bit more for the Montreal crowd this time.
Are you? |

I'm not sure , but we'll have to be home at least one point during the day to feed the dog and let her out, unless we can get a sitter. ( Perhaps we can bring her to the show...dress her up like a kid and get her a wristband - ha ha ) I would like to see the Q&A as well. Has the Fan Club offered any other events like the Sugar Shack you went to last time ? Optionally, if you and Kenmar want to check out any other places in the town I could act as chauffeur .

Richard Pilon set up the Sugar Shack expedition last time. Even though it was up for consideration, I don't think he's going to do it this time, which really bums me out. His reasoning is with all of the stuff going on this time with Brutopia and the Sunday afternoon event, would interest even be a consideration? Personally, I'd loved to go back to the Sugar Shack. Got to see the lovely Canadian countryside and have a wonderful brunch. He's thinking about doing the tour of Montreal, which really doesn't interest me at all. Personally, I'd prefer the Sugar Shack, but I understand his reasoning. Thanks for offering, Steve. Mighty kind of you. May have to take you up on that one. E |

It's nice to see this thread active again, and really nice to see the interaction between all of you going to the Weekend in Montreal
We took a decision last year to have our first family holiday in eight years in France, thus taking away the financial opportunity for me to go to the Weekend in Holland. A shame, but the family has to come first. I really wish I was going to be with you guys at one of the Weekends, but I will be there in spirit if not physically. So, from Mr Laz in Wales, to all of you going, have a fantastic time, and send us all a detailed report afterwards, if nothing else so I can stew at home in a fit of absolute jealousy And, you never know. One of these years we could all have a massive worldwide Round Table get together at one of the events. |
