Cool, it was one of the first fusion albums I've heard, my father recommended it to me. I still think it's fantastic, the duo of Ponty and Holdsworth is killer, and the rest of the band really is great.

Yes it is killer.  If you put a gun to my head and forced to pick a favorite guitarist it would probably be Holdsworth.

What else do you like from Ponty?

LOL I'd probably say Zappa, and then for doing that I'd be killed.

I have  the rest of the "fusion trilogy", which is Aurora and Imaginary Voyage. If you're very fond of Enigmatic Ocean, you should get them, but if you really don't want to have a "similar" album, you can avoid them. I really liked them, but you know that I prefer the more "accessible" fusion than the weirder avant one.
What is good in those is that it has the overlooked guitarist, Daryl Stuermer, playing very good and different from Holdsworth. Also, in Aurora, you've got a more chilled sound, without synths, pure Rhodes.

I also got King Kong, a must-have for Zappa fans.

However, I agree with what some say, that Ponty's best work is when he's a sideman. Say in Mahavishnu Orchestra or in Zappa's band.
