Wow, that is a surprise! I was expecting 'Blackfield III' too LOL

I'm looking forward to another wallet straining SW year ahead! (The new Blackfield, the Akerfeldt/Wilson thing, SW's second solo album, the new SW-produced Opeth) The guy just doesn't sleep!
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

...and Welcome To My DNA is now up for sale in both vinyl and limited edition digibook editions: http://www.burningshed.com/store/stevenwilson/

Just ordered the Digibook. Unfortunately there's no super-lavish edition this time, although at least is hurts my wallet less this way

There's also a new montage of clips from the album to listen to over here: http://vimeo.com/channels/blackfield#18648464
I'm gonna stay away from the samples and wait for the real thing though.

The samples sound absolutely amazing... this will be one hell of an album!

...And is that Gambler (from Oceansize) on the front cover? LOL

This is taken from the Steven Wilson facebook page:

Steven Wilson - Official page My second solo album is nearing completion. It will be in the form of 2 separate 40 minute albums released in the same 2 CD set, and will also come as a blu-ray with surround mix, high definition stereo and a lot of visual material (Lasse is already working hard on films for many of the songs, attached is a still from ...one of these we shot a couple of weeks ago to a song called "Index"). We're also planning a special Insurgentes style hard back book edition with a full length bonus CD of additional material. A year in the making, this is without doubt my biggest project to date, perhaps my most ambitious and personal music, and with some phenomenal musicians and performances on it (drummer Nic France in particular is going to blow a lot of people away). We hope a website will launch around April/May to start previewing material, with the album scheduled for September. More soon....

Very interesting. I have a feeling this will be a great record (duh Tongue). Can't wait to see who SW collaborated with.

^^ Wasn't Steve Hackett announced to be one of the guest on SW's upcoming solo-album? Clap

Looks like this will be a very interesting year for SW-addicts again. A new Blackfield, a new solo-album, a production job for Opeth... my wallet will surely end up hurting, perhaps even letally injured.

Jesus never managed to figure out the theremin either

It's so nice to see my musical hero of today invite so many of my musical hero's from my youth (yeah I'm getting old....) to play with him - Lifeson, Fripp, Belew, and now Hackett. Some major progfan that Steven! Thumbs Up

Jesus never managed to figure out the theremin either

Wow, I'm really looking forward to the new SW album now. As if I wasn't already! LOL

This is indeed going to be yet another wallet draining year for Wilson fans! New Blackfield, new solo album, the collab with Mikael from Opeth, and the production job for the new Opeth album. Maybe new No Man as well. This will be quite a year. Better start saving now.

Latest SW news:

A little update.....after last year was pretty much a year without any new music from me, I've been working very hard in the studio on various projects. Firstly, we finished mixing the incredible new Opeth album a few days ago, keep an eye on their website for details on that. Mikael and I also took the opportunity while he was here to finish writing our collaboration album - there's still a lot of recording work to do, but this should definitely be out in early 2012. The new SW solo record is still on track for September release, and I think the next two King Crimson remixes (Larks Tongues in Aspic and Starless and Bible Black) will be out around the same time. I'm now working on new stereo and 5.1 mixes of another very famous 70's progressive album for a deluxe reissue this year, can't say more about that just yet. Last but not least, over the last year I worked on and off on a new Bass Communion album called "Cenotaph", which is a kind of sequel to Ghosts on Magnetic Tape - news on when this will be released when I have it. I think that's enough for now! Off on tour with Blackfield soon. Best, S

I'm looking to get a new PT album one of these days.

I have

Voyage 34
In Absentia

i also heard most of The Incident from a friend, but I dont have it, it was enjoyable from what I remember.

What should I get next? (you can recommend an older one and a newer one if you'd like)

If you're into technical and "meaty" instrumental interplay (like I know you are), get Fear Of A Blank Planet. Other prog-metal influenced albums are Deadwing and (to a lesser extent) In Absentia.

Cool thanks. I remember hearing previews of FoaBP when it was coming out, and liking it.

How about one of their older albums. I really like Voyage 34, and it was my first PT album actually. I know their first few albums are more like space rock

Up The Downstair sounds a lot like Voyage 34, so I'd recommend that along with The Sky Moves Sideways and Signify.

Actually, I believe UTD was supposed to originally be a double album with Voyage 34 being one of the sides, but the record company or someone told SW to cut that out and make it a standard album.
