Too much reading and seeing what happens in my country and in Cuba (my girlfriends' country) does wonders in one's mind...  But specially, liberating yourself from mental lazyness and psychological chains of dependence...

As far as I know, there isn't any company offering refund in the simple price of the mailing, hence Rob's cry for a solution.


UPS will reimburse the shipper for lost or damaged good without the need for insurance on a package. I assume FedEx has an identical policy.

Maybe deregulation by eliminating the USPS and its monopoly on mail delivery.
Why?
USPS is a great service! Besides, it keeps UPS and FedEX from jacking up the prices of thier services. Not everything needs to be deregulated or defederalized
 


That's nonsense. For one they're cheaper in most areas anyway. Also, the USPS services cost more than the price you pay since it's funded partly by taxes.

If they make me a better offer delivering pacages thats fine and perhaps i will use them but I don't see why that means that the USPS should cease to exist.


That means that I shouldn't be taxed to allow you to send your letters at a lower price. I don't care that it exists. I care that it's funded by tax revenue, and that law prevents other companies from providing the same services that they do.
i send lots of letters. im glad you get taxed to save me cash.
send more letters to make up for the tax if you have a problem with it

I believe in the masses making decisions, if the majority of americans wanted change I wouldn't so much mind... although I would probably go somewhere else until the bad bit was over.

And as for comfort and safety trumping morality and liberty, we have had a lot of that throughout our history.  Still do.

Just a couple of cents worth...
 
The USPS does an okay job, if you have a mail carrier who gives a sh*t, and unfortunately many don't.  Our current one is good.  That being said, going to an actual post office to buy stamps or mail a package is a joke, as the employees are utterly disinterested, though really nowhere near as disinterested as them folks at the local DMV.
 
FedEx, in my area, sucks.  I live in a cul-de-sac of about 9 houses.  These are not McMansions my friends, but rather typical 60's-era ranch-style houses.  The addressses are posted on the front of the house, as was the wont back in those days.  FedEx just drops packages off wherever, any house'll do.  Fortunately I have good neighbors...sometimes I force them to be good neighbors, some of them...who are quick to redeliver misdelivered packages to my door.  And no I don't have a gun.  Well actually, I do.  But I've found putting a big ass pork shoulder on the smoker, and sharing said bounty, works wonders on the hesitant or obstinate.
 
UPS rocks.  The driver on our route is a great guy, always happy, unlike the USPS drivers.  Let me repeat...he's happy to be delivering a package to me and over the years we've gotten some sizeable packages.  My son worked for UPS his first two years of college.  They cover tuition/books.  They pay you for the work you do.  Downside, ya gotta be down at the airport at 3:00 AM to start unloading and scanning.  Upside, you're free for the remainder of the day, to attend class, and UPS is happy to cover it all.
 
When I have to ship something, is there any question as to where I go?  Didn't think so.

UPS kicks ass.  I've never had a problem with them and their people are always friendly.

UPS also knocks on doors.  I've seen FedEx people leave packages on neighbors' front porches without so much as a tap.

It is relevant because at the bottom it says that 87% of people think the postal service does a good job and it was the only professional poll I could find easily. I didn't realize you felt so strongly about the postal service. Maybe we need to get a libertarian W.A.S.T.E. going in here.

This doesn't change that the USPS is an antiquated governmental monopoly.  And an inefficient one as well.
